Jack Grealish

I hear you on the first point, a bit like Mahrez before he joined, he's been the star man in a setup that works for him.

Second point on how he'd react, I'm very confident Grealish would rise to it. Let's not diminish what he's achieved: age 23/24 he captained and carried a big PL club on his shoulders and kept them in the league. Age 24/25 he was pushing them to a top half finish. This is not a small thing: he's a leader.
The season prior he dragged them out of the Championship, this lad is a leader and a fighter, and he is dynamite.

Why do you think that?

You might want Sterling to be the one because he's been playing like shit or Mahrez to be the one because he's older than the others but I really don't understand why any of you are pretending to be certain of anything.
Pep loves Bernardo!

I haven’t seen enough of Villa personally to be able say wherever he’s kept them in the league on his own but I have a couple of Villa fans in my circle who reckon they are where they are down to a top keeper and a team who graft for 90 mins.
Grealish is the cherry on top for them. Also worth pointing out that he’s missed the last 3 months so it seems Villa have pushed themselves into a top half finish.
Not dismissing what you are saying but it does go back to my original point in him being over rated.
Just to be clear though, I’d be happy to see him sign, it’s not my money. Nothing we’ve done over the last decade tells me we are willing to pay 100n for him though.
Be interested to see what the final fee ends up at.

Yes. Despite admiring Grealish as a player, I thought he’d be too expensive a way to marginally improve the squad. So neither the best use of cash nor the best motivator unless someone fairly big is leaving. That is easier said than done in the current market.

However, you can see Pep’s determined logic and sense a cold ruthlessness. He’s saying you have to shake up the MIX to stay at the summit.

Kane plus Grealish would certainly light some fireworks.

It’s sounding like Pep has resolved to bite the bullet. Without naming names, that could well involve ditching a former stalwart who’s not cutting it any more.

How feasible that is in the current market, I don‘t know. I just think it’s far more likely than I did before seeing the video.
Yeah and whilst lots of people hear certain things that may or may not be true. Actually hearing Pep pretty much say “Yes we’re on top, but to stay there we have to buy a couple and move a couple on” trumps everything else that’s been said in this thread.

Striker is a must I wouldn't be to bothered about LB for another season just can't see us getting rid of Mendy
Is a striker a must buy?

Pep has shown we do not need one in the sense everyone thinks

Jesus, Torres, Sterling and maybe Delap even can all contribute

City have so many options it is unbelievable

They do have a collective fight, and John McGinn has also been a massive influence/inspiration,but Grealish is different gravy.....he adds a quality few can muster,he almost guarantees something to happen,he's an entertainer with substance and just makes the team worth watching.

Get him in, not arsed how much he costs.

We need to put our foot down in the league and really flex our muscles. Not my job to work out where he plays or who leaves, we pay Pep about 20m a year for that job. The man knows what hes doing, hardly done wrong since he arrived.

Whatever happens I trust the staff and Pep to get it right some will not like who goes and some will not like who we sign but they seem to have got a lot right : )

Its more than possible the ability shown by Torres when he bagged that hattrick has altered his thinking.Couple that with Delap literally kicking the first team door down......and not signing a striker might not be that farfetched?

You should listen to Pep’s interview again, mate.

”Contributing” is not enough.

He worked a minor miracle without effective orthodox strikers this year. He doesn’t want to start the next campaign with a handicap. Why should he?

Yeah,he'll definitely want the option, but i don't think he'll be overly devastated waiting another season if the right man/right price doesnt materialise.

Pep has implied a number of times that there will be departures this Summer. Interesting times - as always

There are. Aguero! You don't get a bigger departure than that. Replace him with a new top striker and there is the big refresh to the squad.

someone’s off I reckon from us, what pep said to Rio yesterday about you can’t keep winning with the same squad, there might be changes this summer players we didn’t think leaving etc especially with that Laporte tweet

Aguero.

If you look at the post I put up earlier with the points per game ratio this season for when Grealish played/did not play, you’ll see that he’s more than the cherry on the top; he’s the nuts, sprinkles, and hot fudge sauce as well.

Imo, yes.

More so than another midfielder.

And letting Aguero go I guess the club are planning signing one.
