Out of form yet still gets picked. First few minutes looked promising - got in behind then James had him for the whole game. No idea why it wasn’t switched up, maybe Foden could have offered something different to their right side.

Just seemed like he ‘thought’ he could do the Walker special of tap it past a very quick / strong James and run him, didn’t work the whole 90, once the knocking it past didn’t work he reverted to his cut back, sideways backwards, same when he plays AWB he seems to struggle when he’s found out early now.

No idea what the falling on the ball was about but the ref wasn’t having any of that.
He could tap it past james and run, its just that his touch is so dismal he'd lose control upon the next contact with the ball...every single time.

I’m hearing an awful lot of ‘it’s not his fault he was picked’ I’m sorry but fuck off with that bollocks.

This bloke earns 300k a week to play for this football club and we’re talking about him like he’s won a raffle to play for us... not only that but there are reports he’s in line for a new bumper contract!!!!

Like someone pointed out those select few that defend him no matter what their opinion is pointless as they can’t see the bigger picture and will defend him no matter what. He’s been wank for 18 months now and getting even worse. Sell as soon as we can before we lose even more money by selling next summer for even less than this year or end up being tied into a long contract with him.

Makes me laugh when I see people in disbelief when people say offer him to spurs in the kane deal like he’s above them as a club haha, that’s his level to a tee maybe even lower to be honest. He flourished in a system here where he used his pace once upon a time but technically he’s a championship player and lower, can’t kick a ball properly with either foot, dribbling/passing/shooting all shite, pace and movement is good but so what if you’re wank at all the other stuff.

I actually thought he was one of our better players last night.

The issue with his selection was changing a winning formula, no fault of his own.

Come off the fence, tell us what you really think :)

A player that doesn't trust his left foot is out on that side where there was no space whatsoever, cutting in on his right where there was 2 or 3 players stopping him from doing so

he's our only player with any pace and knows where the back of the net is. Three seasons before this one he has got 20 or just under 20 league goals a season. We just haven't been playing to his strengths this season with the new system. Also, no one would be able to afford him this summer so its pointless anyway.
True, but he has limited talent. He played above expectations 2/3 seasons ago. We were surprised he could do what he did. Now he looks nowhere near that form. He's exhausted his ability. Time to go. Shouldn't have been anywhere near the starting XI last night. Not good enough, simple as.

Is there any point giving him a new contract to "protect our asset", regardless of the number of years left on his contract no club in the world is paying over 50m for him.

He gets the team in some really good positions, last night it seemed like he was involved in our best going forwards. However often he trivialises these positions with an awful touch.

I thought he would coming into his prime now, his technical ability finally catching up to his football sense. He's no better on the ball now than he was 4 years ago.

An inverted left winger that can't shoot.

Time to move on and try something different, not necessarily better, but different.

Raz has reached his limit in this squad, not necessarily reached his limit footballing wise, but for him to improve he needs to be elsewhere . Raz is not a natural born goalscorer like kun, Raz has been coached to bring goals into his game, but without that born built in instinct to score it only takes you so far, and Raz has got so far. This is not rubbishing Raz he is an effective player but we need someone now who has instinct for finding space, finding the net, someone that it comes naturally too and then we can add the Pep coaching and guidance.

We aren’t protecting anything by giving him a new deal. All we would be doing is anally probing ourselves to the tune of £15m per season for 4 or 5 years. A lot of people are saying it’s not his fault he was picked last night, or that other players were just as bad. Valid points, but what club offers a player a new £250k - £300k pw contract, if he can’t be trusted and selected for games? Crazy.

For me there’s 3 options, in order of preference:

1. Sell him this summer.
2. No new contract. See how it pans out next season and make a decision based on performances. Run the risk he then leaves with a year to go on his contract, or runs it down entirely.
3. New contract now and pray.

I don’t see Sterling returning to form in this current set up. We play a much more technical and methodical game now. We don’t play to his strengths and unless Pep has the idea that we will return to the Harlem Globetrotter style of 17/18 I don’t see it improving for Sterling. I actually think there are other clubs, with other playing styles out there, that are far more suited to his attributes. If he leaves and goes to the right club, I have no doubt he can return to form and make us look stupid for selling him. For me, it’s just tough shit if that happens.
