Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

That's because, overall, as the league table showed we're the better team and many fans were correspondingly confident.

Chelsea did what some teams do who know they can't compete standing toe to toe and just defend hoping to score at some point. Leeds did it with 10 men, united always do it, Spurs did it and Newcastle did it. No-one beats us playing attacking football as our owners demand we do as described by Pep in his interview with Ferdinand. PSG and Dortmund found that out as did Liverpool at Anfield. It's a unique club philosophy which will cost us from time to time.

So Chelsea did it and won and deservedly so. We have to find an answer to the parked bus and it's something we've been wrestling with for years. Fortunately, generally, we've been doing rather well.
Not sure what game you watched, chelsea defended excellently but they didnt park the bus. in the first 10 min you could see that they were the better side, simple pass over the top or through the channels would split our cbs. Everyone was poor and I am sure it was because the starting line up killed everyones spirits. Some talk of the players bad reactions at the lineup before they game are being spoken about, pep bottled it again. But then this isn't the first time, he bottled it at bayern, he bottled it here against lyon. Its not the first time so...

Chelsea are much more than a parked bus I suggest you read the post by Chicago Blue if you think that is the case.
You are right that City under Pep have developed a possession based attacking philosophy which has been both enjoyable to watch and effective.
The tactical battles in the modern game can be difficult to digest but in general Pep has proved he well on top of his brief but this weekend sadly he came up short. It is not a night any of us will want to remember. A trip back to the drawing board and a reshuffle of the pack during the summer is needed if this Chelsea team and perhaps others of a similar ilk are to be overcome next season.

I see this Chelsea team like the original one under Mourinho; flat track bullies in games v the rest of league but set up defensively and to counter when up against the bigger teams. A very efficient side, there is nothing wrong with that, especially when it can work so well against us.

Tactical battles in football are usually won and lost in midfield, Pep lost that battle on Saturday mainly down to another brain fart.

He struggled with Klopp at Anfield but seems to have found a way to overcome that, my fear now is he overthinks games v Tuchel.

Good post, We've now been sussed. Brighton and Chelsea have shown in recent weeks how to play against us. We have to find a different way next season and signing a striker will give us options.

I agree we have to keep progressing/adapting but you fail to acknowledge the extenuating circumstances in those games, neither faced our best team or system.

And for some unfathomable reason I will never understand,Pep chose to do that again in our biggest ever occasion.

We have no pace to hurt a great defensive team like Chelsea. We needed to drag them out of position. It backfired and it is on Pep, but I could see some logic.

That said, we bottled it, who stood up?
Pep kept saying we were inexperienced, He can’t believe that, Chelsea are a younger side.

We need an injection of pace, a Robben type, and a predator in the box.

What's really great is we have a lifetime to win this competition. It will come.

Stay happy, premiership champions 2021.

Jeez, we've done really well. How many teams won 2 trophies this year.
as an oldie, I would like to be here on planet earth when it does come, rather than looking from above. We blew a great opportunity on Sat

I'm with you fellow oldie. 77 in a few months and being diagnosed last year with leaky heart valves, the sooner we beat this mountain the better. Having said that about the leaky valves - I have had them since birth so many more years ahead of me.

Blimey, they told me to have a word with the Co-op after my leaky HV diagnosis, there's hope yet !

Wonderful season, of course, but I’m gradually starting to realise that this is going to be a slow burning sense of sadness throughout the summer. I shall think back to it often and think what might have been. Thing is, this is the first time that we’ve been knocked out of something important in the very last game of the season. There’s no match coming up for you to think “Well, we’ll put that right now”. It gives me some slight sense of how I would have felt if we had in fact lost that match in May 2012. Although it would of course have been much, much worse.

Can’t understand people that blame Chelsea for being bus-parkers. At 0-0 it always felt like they were the team that was gonna find the 1-0 goal. Werner missed a brilliant opportunity and there were a couple of other chances that felt dangerous. We only had Foden’s when Rudiger blocked.

Commentators kept saying about how it was City's first CL final but Chelsea's 3rd and how that experience helps.
What a load of fcuking shit, none of the Chelsea players had played in their previous finals

You'd have thought after Lyon that the players might have had a mini rebellion and said "Don't do that again". I presume that formation was something they'd actually been practising behind closed doors - but we had had a chance to practise it against the real opponents to see how it worked.

One thing it was hard to see from behind the goal was whether our formation stopped Mount, but I assumed from his being substituted that he'd been less effective than Tuchel expected. Apart from the goal....

This whole debacle made me revisit that old article about Pep when at Bayern. He knows his fatal flaw.

For all the analsis and disection on here.
As soon as we all saw the team most of us knew we were in trouble.
If we all new why did Peps coaching staff not try and change his mind or maybe they did?
There are rumours the players were aghast with the selection.Pep is a genius but he keeps making the same mistakes.I suppose this makes him the same as the rest of us.Do we always learn from our mistakes?
However he is the leader of our club
and as such we have to believe he will get it right in the CL eventually.
Im sure he will change us again next season and we will all be amazed. Not one of the top managers would i swap for him.
