Or, more likely, gammon and chips. ;-)
Ffs don’t get them started ;-)Or, more likely, gammon and chips. ;-)
A couple of days ago we and lots of others were swimming in Windermere Lake. Something I had never done before. It was a good experience. Bit busy as half term but If you can avoid school holidays and chase the sun when it comes out, the UK is a nice place to holiday! The suns out we live in a beautiful country I’m not sure why anyone feels the need to go abroad at the minute, just had a very nice chicken and chorizo kebab sat outside the botanist in Alderley, it’ll do for me.
Get over to the western lakes, wasdale etc nice and quietA couple of days ago we and lots of others were swimming in Windermere Lake. Something I had never done before. It was a good experience. 100 quid on parking ffs .some nights out on the town in Greece with that..Im currently in devon. Im booked to go greece in aug, from last year, if it happens ... great. If not ... whatever.
now ive thoroughly enjoyed my week in devon, specially with the weather like this. But... this country has your pants down at every corner. Weve spent £100 in parking in 7 days. Everything is expensive!
uk has been beautiful this week. But give me greece any day
roll on 2022

Yes but what I mean is that every year you go overseas for your holidays, I'm not complaining about that but were in a pandemic at the moment and surely it would be a good opportunity to help the British economy and have a holiday in the UK for a change.
I've done loads of great things in the UK when I've come over there things like driving the coast of Wales, visiting castles, gentle hiking on the Pennine way/ North Yorkshire moors. Coastal paths of Cornwall etc. Scotland.
Just accept for a couple of years not to go overseas.
What people don't understand is that we can't wait another year to go overseas because how will they get there? The airlines and travel agents have barely got 3-6 months before they will be gone forever. Why can't people just accept that some have no interest in holidaying at home?
It absolutely would be a last resort for me, and more likely I'd just save my cash until international travel opened up again.
If you wanna holiday at home then fill your boots. I don't.
But the pertinent point is how do people expect the travel industry to survive?
Who and what would you expect to be still be around if international travel took a back seat for a ''couple of years''?
Make no mistake, we're getting zero sector specific support from the government, and we're amongst the hardest hit industries with no end in sight whatsoever to our ongoing nightmare.
Add to that, all the profits made in the weeks and months before Covid hit also had to be refunded.
So not only have we (high street agency) had to operate for 15 months with next to no income, we've also had to give back untold sums.
In all honesty I couldn't give a flying fuck about my personal holidays (slight lie tbh but whatever)
Some of the Government decisions are baffling, and it's like they enjoy shitting on us from a great height, but if they propped up the industry then so be it. But they ain't.
Imagine pubs having to survive the last 15 months selling cups of juice.
Or hairdressers told they can open and trade normally but scissors are illegal.
It's fucked and I'm amazed how many people are so nonchalant about it with carefree comments like ''just stay at home, no need to go abroad, travel in a few years''.....and yet these same people show no solidarity to the plight the industry is facing.
Finally, fuck Grant Shapps.
Well said that man.Why can't people just accept that some have no interest in holidaying at home?

Yes but isn’t the world a much cleaner and less polluted place without all the planes flying around.... heard this a few times from certain ‘news’ outlets. They care as much about peoples mental health as the government does about certain industries. Traveling abroad in the next few years will be to expensive for most people. Personally I’m not vaxxed, but most of my friends and family ( rightly or wrongly ) have been purely for travel, it’s been the carrot dangling in front of them for months. Said to my dad the other day he is very lucky he’s old enough to have enjoyed seeing the world because if this goes on much longer his grandkids won’t get that opportunity :(What people don't understand is that we can't wait another year to go overseas because how will they get there? Employees have furlough but companies have rates to pay, leases to pay, rent to pay, they can't last much longer without bookings and there is no furlough scheme for companies that have gone bust.
You then have this tit government changing the rules on a day to day basis without warning and therefore putting people off booking for later this year with their dithering, it's an absolute shambles.
We are booked to the US in late September but I'm not holding my breath, if we can't do it then I'll keep the booking though and move it to next year... Just fingers crossed Virgin still exist then!
It will get more polluted if 4 people drive the length of the country and back for holidays than 500 people in one aeroplaneYes but isn’t the world a much cleaner and less polluted place without all the planes flying around.... heard this a few times from certain ‘news’ outlets. If the weather is crap in uk you spend even moreLoved Cornwall and Devon when I went a couple of years ago.
But as you say,it's ridiculously expensive compared to a lot of the continental resorts and you've got to get lucky with the weather.
Just cancelled my holiday to kefalonia in August.
Will end up in Whitby for a short break instead.
