I have just been told that I can get my 2nd shot and that I can choose between pfizer and A.Z after receiving the A.Z first time around. Am I better off getting the pfizer and mixing them?

Genuine criticism of gov failures is necessary, but making up stuff simply muddies the waters and drowns out proper scrutiny. Those who do this are harming their own case and making it easier to escape proper examination.

Not sure why he would be so blatant and think he would not be called up on it?

I don't think anyone really knows. The uncertainty here is one of the most difficult things.

I've seen two theories:

(1) it was seeded much more here, due to the combination of close links with India and the very late application of strong border controls.

(2) Our vaccination programme has been very strict on age applicability, meaning that for young people, most of whose contacts are their peers, the susceptible proportion is very high, which has driven the epidemic faster than elsewhere.

(1) seems convincing, (2) more speculative. I've certainly been expecting cases to start rising across Europe with the variant, but thankfully it hasn't happened.
On 1 above, that is clearly the most important factor. However, there is a further gloss on this. When India was put on the red list, large numbers of ppl circumvented the regs by flying back to an intermediate country, buying a new ticket, and destroying their old one. I am told that Frankfurt airport, for example, was jammed with transit travellers.

Interesting you have a choice - I thought policy was strictly to stick to same one 2nd time around.

To answer your question - nobody knows but perhaps more likely than not.
We must have been given a lot of doses recently. When I got my first jab I was told 16 weeks until the 2nd.
Just last week I was told I could book after 12 weeks and that it had to be A.Z
This morning I'm being offered either one and only 8 weeks waiting period.
From what I have read, I'm leaning towards mixing them.

Wales data:

The spread of Delta from the North West is taking root here now - in North Wales especially.

0 deaths - was 1 last week

247 cases - was 75 last week

NB: THIS IS FOR TWO DAYS AS USUAL ON A MONDAY - SAT AND SUN

The number of people who can’t have the jab for medical reasons is tiny and is mainly around allergic reactions. My mother had her first jab whilst having cancer in her lung, liver, eyes and brain. She didn’t live to get her second jab but we were glad she had been vaccinated as she had carers 4 times per day. This idea that there are lots of people out there who can’t have the vaccine is incorrect.
Sorry for your loss, it was the worst day of my life when my mum passed from Pulmonary Fibrosis in Feb 2019, I still miss her loads and think about her everyday. I'm thankful she didn't have to live through Covid, it will get easier for you.

In all fairness the MSM were reporting last week that the USA overtook the UK as the worst G7 country. its not a big Chinese whisper to change that to first world

Certainly correction worthy tho.

he said anywhere else and also spouted shit re vaccine roll out

Conjecture: The other factor in the growth of the Indian variant is likely to have been the living conditions of the group who imported it. You'd have instant transmission to extended families. Therefore it has a chance to start clusters.
A member of my family hails from an Indian background. He is very clear that the living conditions of many of his relatives are a big factor.
Also, in the second wave a single household in Blackburn was identified as the primary source of a large cluster.

It feels as if we are falling behind at this point.

  • Germany has reported fewer than 1,000 new daily cases for the first time in eight months, with 549 infections reported on Monday. The country could also be on its way to phasing out masks as cases continue to fall, Health Minister Spahn has said, with rules on wearing face coverings outdoors likely to be lifted first

  • Denmark is also easing its rules from today, with face masks only required on public transport during rush hour and for standing passengers - a requirement that is expected to be lifted by autumn. The country's coronavirus pass, Coronapas, is also being phased out and capacity at sport events increasing

  • Six more Italian regions are also loosening restrictions from today, with a total of 12 of the country's 21 regions and autonomous provinces now under the lowest level of restrictions - although mask wearing and social distances remain in place, and large gatherings are still banned
They've phased out wearing face masks at Asda, Hurst Cross in Ashton, even most of the staff don't bother!

Zoe App data:

Predicted cases 14, 958 - up 321 on yesterday - up from 221 increase yesterday - but much lower than last week

Symptomatic ongoing cases 170, 488 - up 8833 on yesterday - down from a rise of 9382 day before.

NW now fallen below Scotland but still in the highest watch zone.

Some early evidence that mixing may be advantageous.

what he said about the vaccine roll out speed was accurate tho. A lot of European countries are now jabbing faster than us.... but due to there delays at the start they are sill behind us in totals.

There was also stories going around that families were travelling back from India via Turkey to the UK so as to avoid a period of quarantine when they knew it was quite likely they had caught Covid in India. No quarantine plus infected people = increased transmission which is what has happened. The selfishness of many in the past 15 months has been quite astounding. Even now when we are so close to ending all restrictions and after a year people still can't manage to wear a mask properly or even at all.
