Very true, I can't stand BFS and his brand of football but the way he was set up by the Telegraph was a disgrace. They pushed, badgered and refused to leave him alone until he agreed to a dodgy deal. They are sewer rats.
Keegan resigned early before they had chance to stick the knife in. They never forgave him that. SGE got some sort of scam job offer just before a tournament? England "fan" managed to get into dressing room after bad World Cup result? Turned out he'd been "lent" a press pass? Lowest form of life!

Nice to see the groundswell of opinion calling out the media for setting the tone of this country. Most of what I see is what has been happening in USA for years, its all hate and negativity pitting us against each other. Though I never realised the power of the media in shaping the nations thoughts, there are an amazing amount of people who just believe what they're told, they believe the emotions that are given by the negative media and they go out and act upon them, then the media report on that! Its all an insidious circle and the only winners are the "newspapers" and their owners who pit us against each other. I fkin hate them

Wish I could like that twice mate!

That’s why I live in my ’bubble’ and only read stuff I’m interested in; the science and environmental stuff or rumours about City transfers.

The BBC news headlines are enough to get the gist of the shit going on in the world, I’m certainly not going to waste my time reading the opinions of some fat, sweaty hack with an agenda, and even less any of the poorly spelled diatribe in ’comments’ sections.

Good post, the middle ground opinion of most decent people seems to get ignored just for headlines made by those that are far right, left wing, anti vaxers etc

If everyone was like me the written press certainly newspapers would be extinct.

Last one I bought was after we'd beaten West Brom with 10 men and I fancied a read on the beach in Greece.

Apart from that when we could travel I'd pick up a freebie at the airport for those moments where you have to turn electronic devices off.

On a banned/ignore list for most of the usual suspects who are quoted in this thread.

Feel cleansed.

It's like the BBC with Matt Hancock. I'm in no way condoning what he did and I'm just using this as an example of the power of the media. For the BBC to say on the Friday prior to his resignation (Laura Kuenssburg I think, and I'm paraphrasing here) "It's about public opinion. If enough people contact their local MP's and express their anger then Hancock will have to resign", they were essentially saying ring your MP to get him sacked. The BBC could quite easily have said (rightly or wrongly) that Hancock had apologised and the matter had been put to bed and left it at that and Hancock would still be in a job.

Blue. Feel the same. I used to buy a range of Sunday papers in the 90s and spend a few days reading Before binning. Beyond the sport sections I always felt I was actually learning something along the way. Now even the old mid range papers are just sensationalist and hollow crap. You do wonder how dumb the younger generation will be In years to come.

Every Sunday morning after the dog walk , I call at the Mother in laws for a cuppa. The Sunday Mail is given to me along with a small selection of biccies.
I have learnt so much from that Newspaper over the years. There are good royals, and bad Royals..Big bad football clubs with owners who torture the locals. and very good football clubs with huge tradition and history.
Teams who make great transfers for alot of money, and others who throw money around like confetti ruining the great game.
Teams who make tactical fouls, and others who make good fouls. Teams who score the most goals, but play boring football, and then the swashbuckling teams, that win nowt.

One can learn much about the media by reading that piece of British instition every Sunday morning over a cuppa pg

Where`s the Media Focus on PL Match Postponement?

Illegal disorder, trespass, violence against the police, intimidation of staff, disruption of everyday life - it`s the United Way.

The BBC have reported that 4 suspects have been arrested.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-57687691

Yet there are still those who are justifying the protests on 2 occasions when Utd were due to play Liverpool.

The wider issues are

(1) When will the club be punished for its major failings on the day of the postponement? The first ever PL game unable to take place due to the club failing, having been pre-warned, to put in place adequate and appropriate health and safety arrangements to host a major event?

If this had been Leeds or Millwall or almost any other club, the punishments would have been swift and severe.

(2) Why has such a major story and prominent event not been followed up by the media, and the club called to account beyond an apology?

GMP have stated, “We are continuing to review evidence from the day and are committed to identifying and prosecuting those involved.”.

The media should rightly keep this in the public eye and seek to hold the football club and Premier League to account. This is a public interest story. Punishment of the club should follow.

You must know by now that this story will be airbrushed out of history just like LFC hacking into our computer systems. On the other hand Derby County, who dared to invest in their club, unlike other crooked owners in their league, will be taken to the cleaners by the authorities. There is no chance of the UK media ever properly scrutinising MUFC.

That would have been just as bad to be fair.

Second time in five years a match has had to be postponed solely due to the incompetence of their security staff and processes

BBC Breakfast had a feature about the fashion of fans wearing vintage shirts from past tournaments. They filmed a warehouse with loads of international shirts. Mainly England with one or two other countries'.
Just one club shirt shown in full in green and yellow plus brief snatches of Liverpool shirt badge and Boro.
Just one name in close up - Beckham.
I wondered what the chances of United and Beckham getting most coverage. 98-99%?
