Denmark are a lot better than most people give them credit for,and if it wasnt at Wembley i would strongly fancy them to beat us,...still think they have a decent chance.
Apart from the pass from Raz for the first goal i thought we were very average first half,Ukraine gave up after the second goal, their marking for the three set piece goals was shocking.

Bloody hell Hammer how did you get Sterlings head and hands into Shaws shirt ?

I think it’s a little disingenuous to call Southgate ‘boring or defensive’ as a coach.

What he is doing is using the tools at hand to win games, keeping things tight, having players up front who will chase back and defend and a solid midfield.

He’s doing this for the first 3/4ish of the game and then changing things up with the 5 subs at hand, with 3 subs at hand I think we would see a different team starting.

Southgate has taken a leaf out of Eddie’s book with the England rugby team and has divided his team into starters and finishers, grind out solidly in the first section of his plan, still lots of potential - but as the opposition legs start to fade he puts more speed, skill and youth on the pitch which most haven’t been able to cope with, the finishers.

It’s decent plan to be honest and it’s worked so far - let’s hope it continues to work !
Do not bring that Aussie godshite into a football thread its bad enough when the little troll gets a mention in the off topic threads, hate the little t**t.

Denmark are a good side, ranked higher than Germany (I know rankings don’t always tell the true story). It will be a tough game.

Walker rarely plays poorly two games running. In fact, I can’t even remember that ever happening in his time at City. He’s probably been the second most consistent player (behind Fernandinho) in his time with the club.

I’d play Henderson in this one. He’s better than City fans give him credit for and is more incisive and positive with his passing than both Rice and Phillips (with one of those making way). We will need incision and positivity in our passing in centre mid if we are to win two more games in this tournament.

I think Henderson has been used almost perfectly by Southgate. He isn’t as mobile as Phillips and Rice. Whether that’s injury/fitness related I don’t know. But what he has a lot of compared to them is big game experience. He has been perfect when we are 20 minutes away from a win, and just need a bit of nous to see us home.

For all that he is overhyped wearing a Liverpool shirt, he has been perfect for that role.

England's recent form vs Demark is lost and drew. They lost at Wembley with Maguire being sent off and most of the strongest side playing. England lost to Germanyi n 96 to a full crowd on penalties. Wednesday's game isn't going to be straight forward.

We should win, but that's not always how football works obviously.

I still stand by my prediction though. I think we'll have too much for them. With us being at home I think it gives us even more of an edge (you can't compare the atmosphere at a qualifier - that was next to a dead rubber - with a semi-final of the Euros).

I agree the game won't be straight forward. But if anyone offered you England v Denmark in the semi-finals, you'd have snapped their hand off!

that will be denmark advantage knowing the pressure of being at home and the media have written them off before the kick off. what have denmark got to lose and they can take credit getting to the semi final after losing christian eriksen in a shocking incident

they can play and hard to break down and if anything england should look to the iceland game 4 years ago that sent us home. this is the biggest test of this euro's for england and you don't win on paper

Hoping Denmark takes this even with England playing all but one game at “home”

That's all true about Denmark, but I don't think you're giving the England team enough credit.

These players don't need any extra motivation. There are players in the squad who've won Champions League titles and Premier League trophies. Most of them played in the semi-final in Russia, so we have some experience. They can handle this pressure.

I'm not discrediting Denmark, I just think England are a better team than a lot of people give them credit for.

Really don't like or rate Southgate, boring man average manager, that said Mancini is the only top level manager at the tournament so doesn't seem to have been an issue yet.

The players though, really likeable bunch would be great if they could do it.

I do think we'd struggle if we concede first though, just given the way we set up very hard to change it.

on paper its a england win but the game is never that easy
england have great players but i do feel the manager is far to defence minded and it holds them back
if you have a high end sports car you don't drive around in first gear all the time

southgate will come unstuck when or if we go behind because of the team is setup up to defend first
a bit like city when we go behind we find it hard to get a result because we are setup one way

the test is that when we go a goal down can we hold our nerve and change and attack without leaving the back door open

luckily we've not experienced that so far, pretty mind blowing actually.

but that's when the players people cry about on the bench can come on and change the game - likes of Grealish, Rashford, Foden and Saka possibly to come on gives a complete different dynamic.

Now I'm not going to put him on a pedestal with the likes of Guardiola, but realistically what more can he do? When he was appointed 4 or 5 years ago, we'd have never dreamt of getting to two semi-finals.

He's overachieved with England. It's a fair point that he has quite negative or boring tactics, but I think he's done a very good job compared with our former managers.

He's given youth a chance (think we had youngest squad at world cup)

He gives players on form a chance

He has installed a spirit and belief within this squad

Turned us into a solid, tough team to breakdown and we got goals all over the pitch

WC Semi Final + Euros Semi Final

Winning pretty much every game

He comes across as a genuinely nice guy.

really not sure what more people want from a England manager

He is a very average manager who got unbelievable lucky draws twice. He failed last time in the world cup when he only came up against one decent team and If England don't win this now with both the lucky draw and playing all bar one game in Wembley it has to go down as a total failure.

I agree with the rest of your post but picking out the selective part above. The only dynamic Rashford provides at the moment is lowering the overall performance. He shouldn't even be in the squad on current footballing form, he's only in because of his PR and Bob Geldof like qualities.

In classic English fashion we will have an eye on the next game and fail to turn up for this one.....hopefully that’s not the case but I’m still scarred by the ghosts of english tournaments past! Much like I was before city won their first major modern day trophy.....

Gareth has already peddled the excuse of having too many left sided players.....but I really hope Foden starts for this game.
