Indeed. Not sure where all the supposed City negatives come from. I've not seen any. Each player has had his own praise from the press.

I understand it for other tournaments, but I’m not seeing this rag bias you talk about with the tournament.

maguire and shaw have been rightly praised, but it’s not over the top and city players have been praised a lot as well - Sterling in particular.

my advice would be to stop caring about what the media say. If it’s the rag loving media then why read it?
Or listen to it

If anything they're trying to sell Declan Rice almost every day :)

"'Oh great tackle that from Rice, that'll add a few millions onto this price when he leaves"

This semi-final worries me, Denmark are a good side and since Hjulmand took charge they have lost 4 times, 3 of those v Belgium the other v Finland, which we can all write off. They've played us twice in that time, drawing in Denmark and beating us at Wembley.

What concerned me during that first half v Ukraine was that we didn't really have an answer to the Ukraine's change in formation. The early second half goal from a set piece changed it all, causing a very inferior Ukraine side to be more expansive which we then exploited and had Foden/Grealish been subbed on we could have had 5 or 6.

This is arguably Southgate's biggest test. Although favorites to beat to Germany he set us up not to lose, it worked out in the end, but against Denmark they'll be expectations he sets us up to win. Playing at home should be advantageous but, if we're struggling to break them down or (heaven forbid) losing, it could have a negative impact.

I don't foresee Denmark setting themselves up to be too adventurous against us, and I imagine they'll be quite happy for it to go to pens. They'll pretty much mirror Scotland but with better players. Shut down our wide players, force us to play through the middle and Kane to drop deep, they're big enough and experienced enough at the back to deal with our set-piece threat.

On Foden, I fear he will be this generations Scholes. Clearly England's best player but constantly shafted to accommodate others.

Still it's a Semi-Final and regardless of my thoughts on Southgate, it's hard not to get excited about what could be.

Come on England, bring it home!
Great post although i think the Danes will have a right go which might give Southgate some thing to think about.I would like us to do the same with Mount,Grealish and Foden but cant see it as Gareths must not lose tactics have worked so far and u have to give him credit for that.It will be very interesting when we lose possesion high up as the Danes are quick to get forward.
This game will not be as easy as some think.

Tough one. Denmark are a decent side with momentum. I predict a win for us but it could go either way. Southgate will stick with 2 DMs.
Just give it to Raz and the magic will happen. Fearless when taking on defenders. So pleased for him, always fights back when things not going well for him. One in the eye for the moaners.

I don't get why some are getting their knickers in a twist about people having a sceptical or perceived negative opinion on Gareth Southgate and the teams performances so far under his stewardship.

Yes, 2 semi finals on the face of it is decent, better than many can remember but my opinion of his reign is that England are capable of much much more and his negativty is what has and could again scupper any chance of real success, you know actually winning a tournament.

Phil Foden as this tournament has gone on has seemingly fell to about 4th in line for what's probably only 1 free spot in the team due to Southgates tactics. I find that totally baffling and it's only the fact the team has managed to get results that's stopped a lot of criticism heading his way.

Are those that are well and truly on the hype train going to consider this tournament a success and want Gareth Southgate in charge of England if we get beat in either the semi final or final having played the way we have, with the quality he has available to him?

It might seem harsh but I'm yet to be convinced about England's chances based on what I've seen so far. It's frustrating though because I believe we have enough talent to strike fear into everyone we'd face but I doubt the Danes or especially the Spanish or Italians are particularly worried.
