Speed awareness course

I disagree. If you want to get somewhere quicker, set off earlier. The speed limit is a maximum, not a minimum and I rarely if ever go over 50-55 mph. The other lanes are for overtaking only, not sitting at 80-90mph plus. The only time I'm ever in those lanes for any length of time is if I think the traffic is deliberately and persistently exceeding the speed limit and I pop into the middle / outside lane with the cruise control on 70 for ten mins or so. Of course you get the odd dickhead flashing and tooting, but overall I think I've prevented many accidents over the years.

You deliberately obstruct the outside lane with your cruise control on 70? Your hard drive needs examining.

It's not obstruction, it's setting a positive example.

we drive on the left in this country - if you are in the 3rd lane and there is space to your left you need to move into that space - doing what you describe is obstruction and the act of a person who is out to wind people up for your own odd pleasure - Unless you have had you speedo calibrated at a VOSA there is no confirming you are actually doing 70 mph. Changes to wheel sizes, tyre type that differ from the manufacturers specification will guarantee your speedometer is incorrect.

I always make sure there are lorries in the other two lanes doing 50 so I can't be undertaken, and take the speed from my satnav which is calibrated via GPS so all good thanks.

I am researching how to get a 'cow catcher' fitted to the front of my car. You used to see them on American trains in the cowboy films, basically if I get behind someone like you I can just push you out the way

Mmm, another one that seemingly needs to read the highway code. The modification you describe is almost certainly illegal and to instigate a collision with another vehicle is clearly also wrong. I'm proud that my motorway driving serves to protect myself and other considerate road-users from self-styled 'whacky racer' types such as yourself.

Ah but it wouldn't be a collision, it would be a controlled push.

It wouldn't be controlled as you would be within the safe stopping distance laid out in the highway code for travelling at 70mph, which is 96meters /315 feet. To 'push' another vehicle travelling at 70mph you would also have to exceed that and in doing so break the speed limit and so commit a further offence. I'm proud to be part of the solution to the problem of 'drivers' such as yourself.

Technically that doesn’t get you there quicker, just earlier.

I’ve done a couple of these courses, they are quite useful. Generally if I’m going a distance I’ll push a few extra MPH on the motorways/duals. Otherwise there is no upside , you’ll soon get snarled up with traffic lights and everyone will get there about the same time.

It’s the same idiots on every road:

A-roads in rush hour that are travelling at 10mph because of the volume of traffic and you have morons dodging in and out of lanes trying to go at 15mph, but all that achieves is slowing the whole road down further because everyone is breaking to let the morons in or in reaction because the moron hasn’t indicated or cuts into a gap that isn’t there.

Motorways that flash “50” on their signs because of the volume of traffic further up the road and you have morons still going at 80mph then having to break as they reach the queues (usually with a ‘tut’ because their tiny brains don’t understand physics), all that does is puts a knock-on effect on the traffic behind where everyone is then having to break and slow down which creates a jam (usually why the queues started in the first place n’all).

Motorway outside lanes where people think it’s their lane to stay in and travel at 90mph, when the outside lane is for overtaking and when you have morons hogging that lane it can stop people in the other lanes from overtaking as they have to wait while Mr Know-nowt speeds through with no clue how roads work.

If you need to get somewhere by a certain time, leave earlier instead of speeding or using the roads incorrectly so you don’t have to act like a **** on the roads!

Exactly. No problem with people risking their own lives, but not those around them. Hopefully electronic cars will diminish the human element in vehicle control to the point where future generations see the 'wild west' of early 21st century driving and horrific accidents as unbelievable.

In my life I’ve known a family who lost a 15 year old and a baby in a motorway crash that wasn’t caused by them, a mate who was in a minibus who ended up upside down in a field off a motorway in a crash that wasn’t caused by them (all survived); both caused by bad motorway drivers… and a mate killed when a bad driver hit him when he was on a bike on a B-road.

To quote PC Nicholas Angel from Hot Fuzz, “they aren’t accidents, they’re collisions”!

Mr Swiss Cheese, your knowledge of the Highway Code is admirable and should you ever wish to go on Mastermind i am sure that could be your chosen subject. What people like you forget is the the H.C. is advisory it is not law.
Perhaps you can post future routes with dates and times of your journeys so we can a avoid you (except for me who will be behind you all the way, lights full on and horn blaring

Once again I refer you to the highway code reference the correct use of your lights and horn; as well as the correct and safe distance which you should maintain if you desire to follow me in such a manner.

or.....do the easy thing, buy a white van and paint ' For Hire ' on the side. It works, it's amazing how the great unwashed politely move over and wave you on your merry way.

Mr Swiss Cheese, I bet you are one of those blokes that let buses out into the traffic aren't you.

If you're travelling at 70 and there are HGV's in the first and second lanes travelling at 50mph, you'll be past them very quickly and able to move from the overtaking lane
So the fact you hog the overtaking lane is against the Highway Code
