I would too when I am dreaming but I think Messi is compromised now. He is at walking pace off the ball and when his team gets it they give it to him and he switches on. It may work for Barcelona to an extent but we couldn't go to Anfield like that.
Could with him as a false 9

It Hasn’t they just changed it to a four year monitoring period that’s the only official statements regarding ffp been reported unless you can post something to that it has been suspended..
The 4 year thing is one of a number, those measures include this year that is assessed next summer. So they have changed the rules through to next summer. But are also 'in consultation' on new rules;
I think in general rules must always evolve. They have to adapt to the context in which clubs operate. The break-even rule, the way it works now it looks backwards: it performs an assessment of a situation in the past [looking at profit and loss over three previous seasons]. The pandemic represents such an abrupt change that looking to the past is becoming purposeless

I know this will sound incredibly naive but why won’t Messi play for Barcelona for free for a couple of years ? He’s been at the Club for 21 years and has probably earned hundreds of million during that time. He doesn’t need the money but it looks like his Club does. Doesnt he owe them ? I know loyalty is an overrated commodity these days but this would be a great time for Mr Messi to demonstrate some.

Effectively he’d be paying them £50m as that’s what he’d be able to earn elsewhere.

Unless he always wanted to leave, because he wants to win the CL and he’s agreed to play his part in a carefully managed PR exercise where him or Barca get zero blame, and La Liga get painted as the bad guys...

Bluemoon...

Barcelona have destroyed FFP with this loss.

They would need to post a profit of €550m to pass the extended monitoring period of 2019-2022.

Unless UEFA are willing to ban Barcelona, which they won't with the Superleague lurking, any rewriting of FFP to allow for Barcelona will essentially end it as a regulation.

This is worth doing if it can be done.

Kane's younger but he's only going to be mobile for another two years. He's one bad ankle injury away from having his career ended imo.
Haaland is obviously not coming, but if he was he'd be whisked away by Raoila within 2/3 years for another big payday.
Messi might be 34 but he's still got incredible fitness levels and will still be capable of scoring 20-30 goals this coming season. And he's on a free.

My vote goes to Messi.

Ah,our conversation was going so well,a respectful exchange of views.Thought we might avoid the personal insults.
C'est la vie.
It's just a saying, nothing to be insulted by. Plus it was a general observation and not aimed at you directly.
Then there was the little smile at the end.
Think you've overreacted a touch there, mate.

After all the stories last season about us going for him I cannot understand how we wouldn’t be engineering a move for him but if we are not that tells me that the Kane deal is moving forward .
