The latest witch hunt has begun.

I'll reserve judgment in addition to primarily relying on Pep to decide who is worth their salt in the squad.
Most on here recognise that, with the one glaring exception, he was perfectly adequate yesterday. Unfortunately, that one glaring exception is what his game will be remembered for. Both by the media, and by the flappers on here. Shame, but there you go.

Of course it will be. He’s a central defender who gifted the opposition a winner. The game is played over 90 minutes and if he makes a glaring error then he hasn’t had a good game because he’s failed to do his job to an adequate standard over the course of the match.

As I said. The good aspects to his game will be forgotten by many. I remember Stones being persona non grata for the thick end of 18 months. But he fought back, and turned his career around, due in no small part to Dias. A mistake doesn't have to mean the end of his time here.

Not too long ago many would have been well happy to have Ake as a LCB partnering Kompany. He made a costly mistake yesterday and several on here now think he's dogshit and not a good enough 4th choice player, and this is largely based on him giving away a penalty!

He has hardly played enough games to be judged through having 3 better options ahead of him but I'm happy enough to have him as a squad player to come into the side when called upon.

Decent but not as good as Laporte I hope we don’t lose Eric as he’s levels above Ake.

Ruben made a rare mistake to give Blackpool a penalty in the friendly on Tuesday. If he had done it yesterday I doubt, rightly so, he would be a witch hunt target.
Ake has done well in all the friendly fixtures and up to the penalty yesterday was arguably a contender for our MOTM.
All players are prone to errors albeit with different frequencies. Shit happens.
To his credit Ruben (future captain) went to Nathan to offer support at full time.
You know who your friends are when things go wrong.
Up the Blues.

Not going to jump on him on one mistake - it's only a glorified friendly and we played with most of our b team. However worth noting that he has played the most in pre-season, however short, whereas others have hardly trained never mind played a game. I'm sure he'll be fine but I thought both Ake and Ruben dallied too much on the ball yesterday. Best to get the mistakes out of the way but he has to stop the habit of giving away soft penalties. Big season ahead for him, it's kind of now or never with him.

The problem is you’ve described almost every game he’s played for us to date. Looks great, right at a fuck up that causes a goal or right next to a goal he should be doing better at.

At 26 he should be the finished product, but he flatters to deceive.

Injured or not this is his second season and he made a mistake once again our centre backs cannot make. Stones does that once every 10-15 games and gets slaughtered. Ake does it so much.

It is unfortunate that we have some nobs desperate to throw a player under the bus , before the season has started.
probably posting the same about Stones a year ago.

Ake has barely had a chance to settle in at City yet. Slag him off after a full season, not ten games.

I havent seen anyone 'throwing him under the bus' but i have seen plenty of people justifiably express concern that he isn't good enough, and he wouldn't be missed if we were to sell him.

He is incomparable to Stones, especiially in ability.

and tbf when Stones has an error, it’s generally after a run of cracking games. Ake hasn’t shown us anything as of yet. I’d recommend those who have an issue with those of us doubting him go and check our results when he played, then check the actual goals conceded, because he’s almost always at the heart of them.

people quick to cast it as scapegoating, but he simply needs to show us something other than looking cool passing a ball.

I feel like he can be a good CB in a 2, but an even better defensive left back, playing wide in a back 3.

So if everyone is fit, and we can keep Laporte, my fullback pairings are:

Ake, Cancelo, Ake back 3, Cancelo tucks in
Zinchenko, Walker, Walker back 3 Zinny tucks in

its not really a witchhunt mate, we all want him to do well but I never thought he was good enough before we bought him and now that we have he hasn't convinced me otherwise. You say you'll rely on Peps judgement, go watch the replay of Pep raging while covering his mouth after the pen, he 100% does not trust him at all. Even before the pen, Pep was absolutely irrate at how slow he was in possession. If he starts Stones & Dias vs tottenham then you'll have a good idea of how much he trusts Ake.

its entirely possible that hes just running off the rust from having not played for most of last year and being injured, so hopefully if he does feature he can start to show us why we bought him in the first place.

A fair assessment of where we are at. Biggest concern for me is not the mistakes it's how he slows our possession down by taking far too many touches. maybe a confidence thing - we will find out in the coming weeks.
