Afghanistan

All religion is the same, the minority that rule the religion force or coerce the gullible into believing it. The taliban leader is only expressing/doing what Catholics were doing 800 years ago and what the Crusades did to Muslims before that. The Lebanon is only a shit show because religion has been fighting there for centuries.
If these 'barbarians' are such a problem perhaps we should have learnt from Clive when he was wandering around India or the Soviets when they tried the same.
We went into the country to get Bin Laden (allegedly) unfortunately for the West he had fucked off to another country before the first troops arrived.
20 years of trying to force Western democracy on a country that doesn't want it smacks of coloniasm to me.

L.O.L.

What a take.

You can hear taliban shooting in some videos. They’re right at the airport. Is it a case of ‘everyone get the fuck out while you still have time’?

The us soldiers were the ones shooting in the air they are meant to be setup at the airport.

It beggars belief that he had to go all the way to Afghanistan for his kicks. I mean, if it was risk he was seeking he could have tried playing chicken on the M1 or eaten a 4 day old KFC.

I wonder if the c*nt even considered travel insurance?

There are a few travel companies that offer these kind of trips.

I think he is just hyping the "I like to take risks" part up, he simply didn't expect Afghanistan to fall as quickly as it did.

Probably watched Bald and Bankrupt on YT and thought I'll have a crack at that.

You would have thought the "Free World" would have learned from their mistakes in Korea and Vietnam, but they haven't.

Let the Afghani's get on with running their own country as long as it doesn't include the harbouring of radical terrorist groups.

If it becomes a hot bed for extremism then the West have the means to eliminate them without resorting to an invasion by ground troops.

We owe it to all the families who have lost loved ones in this futile campaign not to put our troops in danger in such an ill thought out mission ever again.

Alexander the Great conquered Afghanistan in the 4thC B.C. He was the last to achieve that feat. When UK invaded in 19thC, the British army was all but wiped out.

Blame Biden for that. Trump's "plan" was to evacuate civilians from Afghanistan before the military. Biden changed that
Agree but the whole thing is a shitshow. Trump bargained the US withdrawal with the Taliban without the Afganistan government in the room. Just how was that expected to work? How anyone anticipated that the Taliban would behave reasonably and the Afgan government would retain some sort of order is beyond my understanding.

It was inevitable that many US trained Afgan peacekeepers would simply change their uniforms as soon as they could and that any Taliban would reappear like cockroaches after a nuclear bombing.

Who was it who said something like ‘if you want to understand what will happen in the future look for lessons from the past.’

The West has abandoned thousands of decent people who believed their crappy message. I’m just surprised any third world government trusts the Western powers. Forgetting Trump and Binden for a moment the first person who should resign is Raab… the complete ineffectual tosser. Let’s wait for the usual flop crap from Johnson.

You can't force Western 'democracy' on people who don't want it, don't understand it, and have a completely different basic philosophy. You especially can't when they are all armed to the teeth (having picked up a gun almost as soon as they came off their mothers' tits) and have massive, inaccessible mountains to hide in. You might as well try to fill in the Atlantic so that we can have a new motorway to the USA.

This is not true at all, a dozen empires conquered Afghanistan after Alexander but of you want to know the most famous, google a guy called Genghis Khan.

Some hope. We will go wherever the US asks us to. The last UK PM to turn them down was Wilson over Vietnam.

Religious ideology ALWAYS boils down to power. The Talliban are no different.
It also can only be maintained by force, either by violence or restrictions.

there is no large country in the world (that is not secular) that doesn’t restrict the beliefs that are different to the ruling power.

in the US the entrenched Christian attacks against atheism, let alone islam is alive and well.

China and Uighur.

india/Pakistan.

Yugoslavia.

Sudan/South Sudan

Nigeria

Northern Ireland

the list is pretty Much endless.
many are not just about religion, intertwined with ethnicity, history, colonialism. It only takes one spark or slight, to push a portion of a country to want to persecute and even kill its ‘opponents’, and the rhetoric is generally laced in religious fervour.

sigh.

getting back to Afghanistan, it’s another ‘country’ with colonial era borders that make no sense in historic terms. It is effectively tribal, with little or no real trust between factions/areas.

The Taliban, due to terror and unrepentant oppression unified the ‘country’ under one religious way, because they had the ruthlessness to wipe out anybody that stood for anything different. Whether Taliban v2 will be any different… is doubtful.
