Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

I don’t expect the whole stadium to sing, but when I see people nearly asleep and not even celebrating a goal really confuses me. Some people around me don’t even react when we’re on a dangerous attack.
The limbs of Blackpool away seem a distant memory these days. Some blocks are like a sponsored silence at a library.

I still dont understand why so many empty seats when city are playing the best football the top flight has ever seen and have been for years now. If we cant fill the stadium with this set up and success we will never fill it. No empty seats is a good foundation to a better atmosphere. IMO we shouldnt have built that SS 3rd tier if that would have meant a capacity crowd every match. Other than playing the top teams and big euro matches we never fill the stadium.

I moved to 109 about 5 seasons back and it’s got a good vibe in there with a decent mix of age groups.
Was good in there today, although after 18 months of watching on the TV, shouting for 90 mins put a bit of a strain on the old vocal chords.
Moved into 109 this season, thought it was absolutely brilliant [emoji16][emoji106]

Yep, not so long ago whenever somebody got in behind the defence or was just running towards goal in a dangerous manner then the whole stand would rise in excitement. Nowadays if you stand up in such a situation all the bored people sat down pissing about on their phones assume you’re headin for the concourse

But has it not always been this way since City’s grounds went all seater. Was the same back at Maine Road when the singing blocks were AA and BB Lower and the block next to the away fans in the North Stand. Not sure what the club can do as it appears to be fans choice to not form one continuous singing end.

I agree the stadium does not help but we have created some great atmospheres in this ground just not consistently enough.
Yes but Maine road was relatively compact with low roofs. If the north stand started a song the Kippax often joined in with it and it spread, and vice versa. That doesn’t happen at the ethihad. They can’t even hear each other because the sound has no close roof to amplify it.

When the south stand was extended the club offered a scheme to get the singers together unfortunately the fans didn’t take it up
They didn’t. Some of us were banging on about it at the time. They should have called the top tier the New Kippax or something, put the 1894 group at the heart of it and allowed anyone in the existing singing areas to relocate for half price. It should have been marketed as the new singing end or whatever.

Yesterday was always going to end like that, great at the start but tailing off into a formality.
I expect this Saturday to be much better. The Tarquins absolutely despise us and blame us for all their problems rather than looking for answers closer to home, going back to Adebayor.
Tbf to them they should fill the full away end, loads of Home Counties (ex) students live in Didsbury and Chorlton and they have always brought good numbers to our place anyway

Suffered in the Citizens today, with the prawn sandwich brigade - over an hour to get into Orange Parking from Just by the Mercedes Garage - but, why the hell they only come out 10 mins after the second half and then scamper back in for the eccles cakes with 10 ins to go continues to mystify me - as I am normally sat opposite in my seat in CB Level 3, but to be among them today - terrible experience - not a peep all game. I though the Southstand were in mighty fine form - but like others have said, we need a few new songs and it would be nice if other parts of the ground joined in once in a while. My top complaint over the years - especially away - is when the players vanish off the pitch without any acknowledgement for the fans - and today - I saw Rodri make them all do a semi-lap - just ashamed that there were only two of us left in the Citizens seating block to clap...
We actually had a steward ask us to leave our seats in 118 while the players were still doing their appreciation and the highlights were still on that the announcer had asked us to watch! I was pretty speechless tbh

Building the SS 3rd tier allowed affordable tickets for thousands of City fans.

The season tickets in there are affordable, the match day tickets are not. So you get season ticket holders who have no intention of going to every game buying season tickets in there as they only need to attend about half the games for it to pay for itself, then a lot of the seats go unsold due to the price.

I was at a focus group when they announced it, facilitating fans moving to the extension to form a singing group. With respect to how you think they should have done it then, they didn't do any of that

But if they don’t attend 12 games without putting them in general sale, they’ll have it taken off them.

I’m in SS3 and it must be the best value for money of any season ticket in the history of English football.

£30 a month for 10 months to watch 2 matches, with the likes of KDB, Grealish, Dias etc.

unbelievable value

Our atmosphere will always be a bit flat.

I put it down to our fanbase on the whole being quite sarcastic, dour and self-deprecating.

We don’t have as many chest beating happy clappers as other clubs.

We’re basically a load of miserable bastards.

Miserable is probably the best word I’d describe City fans.

“The Etihad inside had areas with safe standing and although the atmosphere was not electric it was very loud when they got going.”

there’s a lot of rubbish on this forum about us, but some nice comments as well. Maybe we aren’t really that bad

There were plenty of empty seats at most of the PL grounds this weekend. Arsenal played Chelsea yesterday. A top London derby. There were empty seats all over the ground, especially in the upper tiers. And the atmosphere was sh*te, apart from the Chelsea end. A couple of Arsenal, Arsenal, chants, and that was it.

Villa Park was the same. After Danny Ings scored his bicycle kick goal, he ran to the corner (flag), only to be met by loads of empty seats.
