Harry Kane

Jesus isn't playing as a striker, so when posters say there might not be another striker available that impoves us they probably mean improves the team, not improves individuals. As it's the team that matters, if the club don't see an option that improves the team is available then that's what it is. They obviously think Kane improves the team, and unless they have an alternative we don't know about then they think nobody else available improves the team otherwise they would buy the alternative.
I was trying to stay away from the whole Jesus not playing as a striker thing, because that leads to the false number nine route all the time. It strikes me that we are mostly trying to say the same thing, my issue is that we seem to have put all our eggs in one basket, you can forgive the club a couple of years ago with Kompany as I think they had hoped he would stay another year. This problem is something they have likely known about for 12 months and I'm sorry I simply can't accept that there isn't a striker anywhere in Europe other than Kane who can improve the team, it just doesn't make sense.

It's weird how people manage to convince themselves of lies like this.

Jesus is not an absolutely elite, top 5 in the world striker.

But over 5 years he's shown he'll score every 120 minutes or so when he starts. If he plays 38 games as a 9, he'll get 20 goals.

Kane might get 30 or 35, but Gabby is still a better striker than 15/16 clubs in the league have. We're still big favourites to win the league without Kane.
I'd score 20 goals if I started 38 games in our team

Pep is so convinced by Jesus's goalscoring ability, he plays him on the wing. Tells you all you need to know

You don’t say. I hadn’t noticed. Perhaps the club would prefer to continue with a false 9 & wait for Haaland rather than buy a sons choice striker

However, who were you thinking of?
Tell you what if we don’t buy a striker bump this thread at the end of the season when we lose the title. Yeah, let’s sacrifice a year when we’re champions and face stiff competition to retain it after a year when our rivals were miles off form.

I'm not saying I'm right... it's an opinion.. that's how these forums work eh

For me the false 9 was a one off last season. Our midfielders were in the goalscoring form of their life. Towards the end of the season, the better teams had sussed out this system and we weren't finding the same success with it

Go with it again and the Leicester and Spurs game will be repeated many times over the next 9 months

Yeah. I agree but seriously I’m not in favour of just signing a striker for the sake of it. On one hand we have fans complaining because we don’t give our academy players a chance & when we might have to (rather than buy second or third choice striker) they complain that we’re going to fail if we rely on youngsters instead of buying a striker (but they don’t say who!)

Which striker are you referring to & we’ll bump that as well

There well may be, but is there one better who the club want?

Which is a fair enough POV. However the club aren't stupid, so either they have looked for available alternatives and have one, or they have looked and don't see one that either fits or more likely is short term but would want a longer deal and prevents us next summer getting a better altenative that might become available for arguments sake Haaland or Mbappae. Whatever happens they will have thought long and hard about it and have reasons for whatever they do or don't do.
It may be there are alternatives to Kane but alternatives not as good as the alternatives that would be available next summer. The alternative to Kane may be to play the longer game.

Pep is never playing jesus as striker again. When Torres came off in Norwich game, Gabby went to left wing, mahrez right and sterling in middle

well clearly it would seem not. I know football is all about opinion but going into a full season with the striker(s) we have will be season objectively as a real weak point in the team and like Centreback a couple of years ago it seems to be something we could have addressed but failed.

How much are clubs going to be willing to pay for a 29yr old Kane next season?, 50-60 million, especially when Haaland becomes available at 67 million. Is Levy really going to be prepared to drop Kane’s price by nearly 90-100 million. If he’s really the hard nosed business man he would have everyone believe I can’t see him doing that, but of course I could be and probably am totally wrong.

Jesus played 29 league games last season and scored 9 goals. That’s similar or less than Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, Jesse Lingard and Thomas Soucek.

I think the biggest problem with him is that he can easily go 4 games without scoring and then score a hat trick against some shite side in the CL. His stats then jump from 0 goals in 4 games to 3 goals in 5 games.

I’ve said numerous times that he’s a very good player, especially on the wing. But I don’t think he’s good enough to be the main striker for a club competing for the CL and PL title.
