Harry Kane

If only today they've agreed new terms with Kane then surely City would still be confident of a deal getting struck. We've had that other "ITK" guy saying the deal is straight up off and a general sense it isn't happening. So this agreeing with Kanes camp today would all be pointless.
The 2 ITKs who've claimed this don't have a good record and their info is 'last bid has been rejected' whilst we are preparing our actual final bid now, and for that to be in place terms with Kane's camp needed to be agreed. Probably comes down to which version you want to believe really.

I think Levy has already settled for the £125M + add on's and that was the green light to crack on agreeing the dosh with Kane and his new PR pals, which seemingly has now been done.

I imagine there was no annoyance over the number ten shirt but more he wanted a bigger wedge to wear that fucking third kit
The reason that’s not longer relevant is he wore the equally appealing Spurs away/3rd kit yesterday and realised his image was fucked either way.

Chelsea would have gone for him if he and any interest in going there. Same goes for United.
In fact same goes for Aston Villa and Everton.
"He won't go abroad" That's his choice.
He could stay at Spurs if he wanted.

"He has no choice" of course he did. It's just he's already made his decision.
He doesn’t want to stay at Spurs.

Chelsea went for Erling and got told to go fuck so wrapped up lukaku pretty quickly.

As I say no choice in this window but City.

They won't sign anyone if they don't get Kane.

I can't like this post.

However, I am not a gloomy as you about not signing a 9, or as optimistic as Dom.

What does seem to be the case is that Pep doesn't see anyone else fitting in well enough or being special enough if we cannot get Kane. I'm sure he'd accept Haaland or Mbappe but they do not appear ready to come to City for their next move.

To get someone suitable, we will have to pay tens of millions of pounds so it has to be very clear that the investment involved is worth it. We can field a variety of combinations of a front three that have plenty of goal scoring potential.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I agree with tolm's comment from last night that we should have (re)signed Edin when he was offered in January.

Since adopting the false 9 system we have played 28 Premier League games and won 23.

Of the 5 losses I can point to 2 of those being Pep pissing about and resting players because the league was won, 1 against United where we dropped the ball, 1 where we paid the price for not having a striker (Chelsea, although that was an experimental side) and 1 when we had half a dozen players not back yet (Spurs last week).

To me, this idea that the false 9 has been figured out or was a temporary fix just doesn't seem to have any basis in fact, just the nervy feeling of a fanbase who want a big name striker to feel at ease.

I don't need Ferran Torres to become a world class 9. I don't really need anything other than the team to keep on keeping on, with Grealish adding a bit and keeping people fighting for places.

It isn't about being figured out or anything like that. I just think that the false 9 is not a forever solution in the same way that Fernandinho as your 4th choice CB wasn't a forever solution. There are knock on effects to the false 9 in the same way that there were knock on effects to using Ferna as a CB. For one I think the false 9 has put too much pressure on Mahrez/Sterling to be not only creators, but scorers in big/tight moments where normally you'd be looking at your 9.

I'm still somewhat hopeful though that they'll get Kane over the line, and even if they don't I expect we will have what it takes to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. But it won't change my opinion of the window and it'll be all the more interesting to see who they choose to target next summer.

gabby's and dzeko's stats in the league are strikingly similar, both scored 50 goals in around 7000 minutes and 130 appearances (7081 and 130 for dzeko, 7538 and 133 for jesus)

Those stats are very interesting and I didn't expect Gabby's PL stats to be that high. I think another similarity is that they both played second fiddle to Kun for the bulk of their City career.

I do think that there are a few other variables to take into account when comparing the two. You'd expect a striker to score more goals in a Pep side than a Mancini/Pellegrini team.

Plus, Dzeko handled the pressure of replacing an injured Kun when we won the league under Pellegrini. IIRC, he scored some huge goals away at Everton and Palace. When Kun was injured last season, Pep preferred to play without a striker than having Jesus lead the line last season.

On the flip side, Gabby is nowhere near his peak and has his best years ahead of him. Whereas Edin was older in the season when we won the league under Pellegrini. Also, Edin was a player who could be anonymous for 80 mins and then score a goal. Jesus is the complete opposite in the sense that he can be a handful for 90 minutes but not score.

Maybe the window will explode this final week, clubs hoping other clubs will accept knockdown prices on players. I can still see us selling Laporte and Bernardo but for nothing that we'd like, then we sign Kane not long after, then Spurs sign a few. Oh well worth a wild guess
L
Just checking my tin hat from last night, and I reckon it’s got another days beating left in it (nerds don’t hit that hard!)……

Kane’s camp has agreed to the new terms.

Now its over to the Execs to do their thing.
Thanks for the updates I appreciate it, I've always thought this would go through even though it would be hard, Levy will want to be able to say to the fans he fought to keep Kane right until the end, as somewhat to appease them, I would love to see him at City I am a big fan of Kane :)
