Harry Kane

we got through last year as everyone around us had their own problems and we found a way to get the job done? Liverpool wont have the injuries they had last season, the rags once Sancho and Varane find their feet will be a lot better? Chelsea have just added Lukaku and are about to add Kounde so will be much better and they beat us three times last season? Not fair on Pep when the club have brought money in and there is a relaxation of FFP to not back the manager for this year as the chairman said the club would?

We didn't "get through" last year, we walked the title because we won 21 consecutive games in all comps, the record for an English club.

It's incredible how the forum has rewritten history so that we were the only team without problems. Does no one remember the massive covid outbreaks, the injuries to key players, our top goalscorer losing form?

We dropped 28 points last season. 9 were after the league was won. 5 were because we didn't have a defence for the first 3 games.

I don't care about other sides, I'm looking at our side and thinking about us. Sterling has found his form. Jesus has been reinvigorated on the wing. Mahrez is in the form of his life. Dias and Stones are an established partnership and Dias is already looking like he's made strides with ball at feet. Foden is only getting better.

Between adopting the false 9 system and the game when Pep started resting people for the CL because the league was over (13 points clear), we played 19 Premier League matches and won 18 of them.

I see absolutely no evidence of the system being "figured out".

We were pretty heavily linked to Joules Kounde soon after it became apparent we couldn't get Koulibaly and then obviously Dias got strongly linked. We haven't been heavily linked to anyone but Kane really this summer and there's a week left.
We are linked to Dusan now. Similar to kounde. I don't think we were linked to dias. The deal was announced straight up towards the end of the window

It’s not amortised at £50m per season as wages are not included in the annual amortisation figures bud.

But fuck yeah. It’s worth it.
I’d disagree. Kev and any other player would be looking at the deal and asking wheres they’re wage increase? Dangerous game playing that wage. It’s one thing paying Kane money in transfer fee but to break the wage structure completely would be dangerous in my opinion.

im not saying kane is a better deal im saying that it makes sense for him to be more expensive due to him being english (english player premium) and were dealing with levy.
The centre backs were much of a muchness. Yes Dias has worked out extremely well, but the difference to Kounde or Koulibaly is not the same as the difference as Kane to any other strikers we’re realistically able to attain

I understand the Kane or nothing stance, but I imagine everyone involved from City side expected it to have been decided by now

It's weird how people manage to convince themselves of lies like this.

Jesus is not an absolutely elite, top 5 in the world striker.

But over 5 years he's shown he'll score every 120 minutes or so when he starts. If he plays 38 games as a 9, he'll get 20 goals.

Kane might get 30 or 35, but Gabby is still a better striker than 15/16 clubs in the league have. We're still big favourites to win the league without Kane.

I saw today Gabby is equal to Dzeko in our Premier League goalscoring charts on 50 goals.

He is only eight goals behind Tevez.

Just checking my tin hat from last night, and I reckon it’s got another days beating left in it (nerds don’t hit that hard!)……

Kane’s camp has agreed to the new terms.

Now its over to the Execs to do their thing.
We move. Thanks for the updates. Everything you said seems totally adequate and given your previous reliability, thank you for sharing what you know.

the question on everyone's mind - what number is he getting!

Spot on.

I can see this but why would City who also presumably know it deliberately choose JG to give the marketable 10 shirt to?

Perhaps this deliberate spanner gives City chance to opt out of this deal or are City really that image rights stupid?
Or maybe it was just typical City. I’m not sure why people still believe that we are this well oiled machine. Our Execs have taken a lot of stick for messing up transfer in recent windows

Loved watching Lukaku yesterday. He was a focal point for Chelsea and they looked a different threat to what they did last year.

Kane in this team would take us to places we haven't been IMO. It allows us to be even more flexible than we already are.

I don't want to act spoilt about it all though, because it is quite clearly a lot of money in a time where we may have to be a bit more clever. But we must have been aware when we set these two as our main targets, that it was going to cost upwards of £220m to get them. It is and will be bad business if we haven't identified alternatives and I am of the belief that it will cost us this year similar to the year when we didn't replace Kompany. We have spent a lot of money but for me, there are 3 glaring weaknesses in our team. We have to plug one of those this Summer .

I like this more than the doom and gloom so far today. Let's get it done!
So he's saying kane wants to come, which he always has.

He's saying now we have to deal with spurs, which was always the issue ! How is any of that good news or any different to what we already know ?

I won't have full belief in anything. Maybe we can win the title again without a 9. Maybe this season it'll be much harder. Maybe Torres can blossom, or maybe he won't. But it is binary for me. And it will be either fucking appalling or tremendous. I'm sure others like you will have a different view and it is rare that single transfers bother me. But the 9 situation bothers me enormously.

Since adopting the false 9 system we have played 28 Premier League games and won 23.

Of the 5 losses I can point to 2 of those being Pep pissing about and resting players because the league was won, 1 against United where we dropped the ball, 1 where we paid the price for not having a penalty take/striker (Chelsea, although that was an experimental side) and 1 when we had half a dozen players not back yet (Spurs last week).

To me, this idea that the false 9 has been figured out or was a temporary fix just doesn't seem to have any basis in fact, just the nervy feeling of a fanbase who want a big name striker to feel at ease.

I don't need Ferran Torres to become a world class 9. I don't really need anything other than the team to keep on keeping on, with Grealish adding a bit and keeping people fighting for places.

I would be very happy if Kane came in, but the squad we have right now is the best already.

gabby's and dzeko's stats in the league are strikingly similar, both scored 50 goals in around 7000 minutes and 130 appearances (7081 and 130 for dzeko, 7538 and 133 for jesus)
