I think there has been some revisionism of the Chisora fight in the media though (even on the 5live pod yesterday he was claiming he won). He let Chisora blow his gasket for a few rounds then picked him off for the rest of the fight, nearly stopping him in the 7th too (Chisora admits he was on unsteady legs)

Do we know Joshua has been sparring with in prep (i.e. who has been tasked with doing their best Usyk impression).........?

Usually he uses a lot of the amateur lads at Sheffield, I know he had a Croatian (I think) in his camp this time but I cant for the life of me remember his name.

People go overboard saying Usyk struggled against Chisora but equally too much is made of the 7th round against Chisora. He was gassed and emptied his tank because he knew the bell was coming and got clipped in the final seconds with a few good shots. Although he was on unsteady legs, it doesn't equate to nearly being stopped. Usyk didn't have enough to put a gassed and dazed Chisora down on the canvas even once, is another way of putting it. It's not like Chisora hasn't been knocked down before. Haye was a cruiserweight moving up weights and he managed be the be the first to stop him. Fury had him quit on his stool. Whyte knocked him out too.

Usyk has never been a KO artist as such, even at Cruiserweight, he wears fighters down with his movement, punch output and accuracy and takes them out when they have nothing left. Chazz Witherspoon wasn't knocked out either, he was a late replacement who was hit with the kitchen sink and he quit on his stool because he had nothing left in the 7th round.

I agree with all that, that's why I fancy the bet on Usyk by decision rather than a stoppage. But Del Boy himself admitted he was buzzed and on unsteady legs after the 7th because he got spun by Usyks southpaw stance and didnt see the shot coming.

What I have issue with is the idea it was a close fight, people like Coldwell shouting robbery from the rooftops.

The first few rounds did it look a bit dicey for Usyk? Sure, but I bet if you asked his camp beforehand that's exactly what they were prepared for. He rode it out without ever really being in huge danger (A 260lbs bloke winging punches at you will always be dangerous)
 
Only had a quick look but am I right in think AJ is the clear favourite in betting odds and prediction polls?

I see it a lot closer than that, this is going to be a hard fight for whoever wins it and no outcome should be a surprise. AJ could outpoint Usyk, Usyk could well stop AJ late. No matter what happens AJ will not get any credit, is the only shame in this fight. Usyk wins, they say AJ was "overrated" . Then Fury and Wilder avoid Usyk and fight each other until they retire. AJ wins and it will be "he's beat a cruiserweight" along with criticism of how it was done.

Yeah, robbery is a word that's lost meaning in this era of boxing. I think they do it to drum up more interest for a rematch sometimes.

I actually had Parker beating Chisora because Chisora can smother his own work at the best of times and gets sloppier when he tires(always tires). I have no problem with people saying Chisora beat Parker but I've seen people say he "beat the brakes off him". I just had to laugh at that, other than the flash knockdown in the first round, I can't see why anyone would get that idea. Parker's problem is he is too hesitant and lets himself be outworked, he needs that training out of him. When he does keep busy he boxes well and lands clean, which is why I had him scraping it but if it had gone the other way it would have been his own fault.

Just think it will come down to size, Uszek not concussive puncher but with AJs chin which I don’t personally think is that solid it could be interesting but my moneys on AJ
 
Usyk has enough power to keep anyone honest at HW. He's not knocking people out with one punch but he has enough to stun them and the accuracy to catch them clean repeatedly, if they try and just walk him down. I think he could potentially embarrass Wilder and stop him(overrated chin). I don't think Fury fancies it either.

Even if Usyk loses against AJ, there is no shame in that. I'd still fancy his chances against the rest of the top 10 and would love to see it. Great fighter, likeable personality, will fight anyone, good for the division.

Equally, if Usyk wins, that puts him up there with anyone at HW. I'd still fancy AJ to beat anyone else in the top 10, with Fury the only question mark.

I just can't see usyk winning on points, I reckon he'd have to dominate like calzaghe against lacey to get a draw against hearns judges

See what you are saying, I actually think we'll get a clear winner in this fight.

I think it will be blatantly obvious that either Usyk can't bridge the gap in stature (so gets stopped or doesn't lay a glove on him) or I think Usyk makes Joshua look very very mediocre.

I don't think there will be room for controversy in this one.

Cue the draw and a rematch............ ;-)
 
Usyk is the most talented boxer for his size that I’ve seen in a long time I’d say even better that Tyson fury but it’s if he can take the heavyweight shots which is the only positive joshua has in him because he can’t outbox and outthink usyk and the pace of usyk will give him problems aswell but Joshua does have the firepower to knock usyk out so you never know . Cracking fight and probably Joshua’s hardest fight so far in his career . Hope usyk does it tbh as I’m not a big Joshua fan and I also think that fury could be underestimating wilder this time round as well wonder what the odds are of wilder and usyk being champions by November
 
Absolutely buzzing for this fight tomorrow, Love watching Usyk he is absolutely phononemial.
It will be interesting to see what happens if Joshua catches him clean to see what chin Usyk has, I fully fancy Usyk tonorrroe night I'm going for a late stoppage rounds 10-12. Usyk could win every round and the judges will fuck him over. Has to be a stoppage.
 
Glad to see the love for Usyk on here. Anyone who loves boxing must be beguiled by him - one of the most graceful and clinical boxers I’ve ever seen.

Imo a peak Usyk of. 2 or 3 years ago bamboozles AJ, wears him out and stops him late on. The only question for me is whether at 34 and schlepping around 20 pounds more than his peak fighting weight, can he still move with the same fluidity he did at cruiser ? He didn’t look the same against Delboy and Witherspoon but maybe that was due to inactivity or just acclimatising to life as a HW. If he can though I think his angles and feints and tiny little adjustments midfight befuddle Josh and Usyk dances his way to victory.

Should be a great night
