The idiocy (and selfishness) of panic buying

How about having a minimum spend at the pump's of £50.00 with no cans , the one exception being Motorcycles. This way those filling thier almost full cars would help reduce queue's.

Talk Sport interviewing Cockneys in West London yesterday for their news bulliten...
One woman says "I'm only here because everyone else is"

That’s the issue when these things happen. The initial swathe of panic buyers lead to everyone else then having to follow suit. Happens so quickly it’s hard to distinguish who is in which camp.

And that is the issue. The previous week it was none. This week it is five. How many next week or the week after? ‘Shit, I better fill up just in case it gets worse’.

It‘s like a run on a bank or on any commodity. Once you report the first sign of a problem, people will react to ensure they are not impacted by the problem, but the issue is not the reporting of a problem. The issue is making sure there is no problem to report.

Our system runs on confidence. Once you lose the confidence of the public the supply chains are overwhelmed. Add in the fact that supply chains are slowly degrading and you add to the public’s lack of confidence.

One poster was mocking the lack of a few goods at a supermarket and ‘how will we cope.” But the issue is these goods are missing because the systems we rely on are breaking down and people notice this. So, they stock up with a few extra items, which puts more strain on the supply chains and increases shortfalls.

And yes, we voted for this, so yes people are going to mention it.
Google Chicken Little, Henny Penny.

In short it is a story of a chicken who panicked when an acorn fell on her head. She thought the sky was falling in. She ran around causing panic until all the animals joined her running around in panic.

I think she got eaten by a fox.

exactly this

of course there is selfish idiots out there - but that doesn't excuse the fact our government have bodged this right up - and we know one of the main reasons - but aren't allowed to mention the B word.
Our government havent bodged anything up. A garage owner was interviewed yesterday. he had 4 pumps. in 2 days he sold 30,000 litres. Normally he does not sell that in a week.
How is that the governments fault ? Why do all these people suddenly need petrol - answer they dont.
Stop blaming the government and brexit.

Is that a rhetorical question. If we had 15,000 more doctors, 15,000 more police, 15,000 more nurses etc would the current situation be improved. I didn't vote for Brexit as I had a better understanding of the whole situation than many others. If you want to apportion blame look at those who blindly voted to leave. I know people who voted to leave on the toss of a coin or who voted to leave because it would be something new and different.
You said it was 'nothing to do with bexit'
I am showing how the problem would have not been as bad had 15000 drivers not left because of brexit.

I think getting eaten by a fox perhaps shows the chicken failed to appreciate the real gravity of its situation. A bit like your post.

Someone wants a word...

it makes it fair and prevents the idiots with Jerry cans in their boots taking the piss
I agree mate, but, some people do use more fuel than others.
Was basically saying,if you need more, there's no point going Asda.
Morrisons let me put £50 diesel in this morning.
Normally do it every Monday and it lasts me the week for work.....queues were too big though yesterday.

Haulage is a cut throat business.
They cannot afford to throw better wages and conditions at drivers.
This isn't because they are evil employers. It the simple fact they wouldn't be in business for long.

What is needed is better regulations in pay and working conditions. This would allow the better employers a chance of improving things.

As for HGV drivers moaning about the lack of showers. Most i have met wouldn't know what a bar of soap or a shower was if you threw one at them!
Haha yeah i get that in between dropping the load and murdering prostitutes, cleanliness isnt a factor …
But a gripe is that no ones going into the industry. Maybe offering slightly better conditions would attract younger lads into it

Been doing it since 2007 and the only drivers that piss in bottles or shit behind trees are the ones that want to piss in bottles and shit behind trees.

The majority of Hauliers provide decent, modern vehicles to those that are willing to tramp that are equipped with fridge and microwave. Some have depots all over the country where you can park safely, get a shower, food and even gym.

If an individual chooses to work for an arsehole that's going to pressure you to into what you've wrote then a proportion of the blame lies with that individual.

However, I'd agree about the paying peanuts bit. Most companies that do general haulage have had poor pay and long hours for years. But you don't have to stay in general haulage. There are many other sectors within haulage where the pay is decent and the hours are more balanced.
Thanks for the reply. Nice to hear it from some one doing the job. I was quoting a trucker who rang in stating the pissing in bottles bit but maybe thats him

Funny, my 20 year old lad has no clue about a career post uni and he mentioned truck driving as hes happy in his own company and loves driving (and bottle pissing ;) ) Wouldnt know where to start to advise him if im honest
