The idiocy (and selfishness) of panic buying

The first thing you do is not put up trade barriers and restrict the flow of haulage drivers during a pandemic and against a background of an existing driver shortage.

Then you won’t have BP issuing warnings about closures of petrol stations on the back of shortages of food and then you won’t get people thinking ‘hang on, this doesn’t sound good, I’d better fill up just in case.’

We are in this situation because of deliberate actions taken by the Govt. These actions were taken because we voted for them.
5 petrol stations are not the result of trade barriers neither is covid nor poor work conditions or better job offers. All 3 may have led BP to have a minor problem.
Trade barriers do not cause panic amongst idiots. You can bang your Brexit drum all you want but in this instance and in this particular thread it couldn't be wider of the mark

May? So, you’re just guessing at this point?

Are other European countries, or indeed NI, experiencing fuel supply difficulties? Answer. No.

And another thread descends into a Victorian world of evil mill owners and the workhouse.
Thought we had a politics thread for 6th form debates.

Usual wannabe MP bullshit as usual.

I did this earlier. Put petrol in the 8 jerrys in my boot instead of Diesel. Going to be a bastard to shift to the lads on site for an extra £30 each.

Remembered to put a full tank of Diesel in my own though. Strange

Of course I am guessing as the drivers didn't ring me to tell me why they weren't at work.
The problem with you remoaners is because of your constant complaints, blaming Brexit on just about everything, people stop listening to you whine. Therefore when you have a genuine complaint regarding Brexit no one listens. This was a thread about selfish people but you lot of moaning Minnie's have derailed it into your tiresome political pathetic, its not fair, dirge.

Shapps said the primary cause of the shortages had been the cancellation of HGV driver testing last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, which he said had delayed 30,000 drivers from taking their tests.

However, he also acknowledged the role of Brexit in the crisis.

"Brexit I hear mentioned a lot and it no doubt will have been a factor," he said.

BP used to employ tanker drivers directly. They were on good money and had access to the very good company pension scheme. They were always up for an extra delivery and a bit of overtime. Now, they employ agency drivers who owe no loyalty to the company, often have a second job to go to and so can’t take the overtime. A case, perhaps, of knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing?

Most moaning poster complains of moaning!

Gotta love the hard core tories on here. Haha!
It's why they will stay in power for years, the perfect catchment age of voters who will stick by them until the very end. Hopefully by the time the next generation come through there will be something left of an opposition party that's worth voting for.

So nothing to do with brexit then. BP look to save money on wages, pensions etc drivers find other jobs with better conditions.

Remember it well, fucked all the employed drivers off for cheap freelance, drivers wages starting to rise suddenly BP discretely announce to the media they're having to shut petrol stations what a coincidence eh.

The head of the hauliers association said that Brexit is a leading factor. A major haulier just interviewed on Channel 4 news said that Brexit was a leading factor in his loss of 25 of his 30 HGV drivers.
Should have employed more British drivers and made the job better. If you rely on labour that can bugger off at a drop of a hat that's bad management.

They thought the perfect combination of pay low earn high would last forever. This was discussed prior to the original vote. It was laughed off. Tough shit enjoy the queue. Stuck in your vehicle earning nowt is the ultimate irony. Now you have a brief glimpse into a truck drivers life.

Embrace it you may see your family at some point.
