The idiocy (and selfishness) of panic buying

I'm very glad all drivers will be getting a pay rise if only things had been done earlier. Such is life.

Higher wages cost business more money? Now that is a new development:-)
Some will get more than others. Seems being British won’t get you the 20% extra the EU drivers will get,

Firstly I have no interest whatsoever in politics. Whether Tory, staunch Labour or whatever other group of privileged prats we are allowed to vote for, this situation, where a there's a shortage of drivers would have likely happened anyway.

Mainly because hardly anybody young sees transport and logistics as a good career choice. You've driven for a living so you'll know full well that the average age of a HGV driver is a concern and has been for a long time.

I reacted to a couple of posts that were giving a negative view on the job and the industry. The only reason I got involved was to point out that it's unfair to give that impression on an industry that I believe has sectors within it that could and should appeal to a young person wanting to make an honest living if they had the right attitude and mentality.

You and Pam seem to have got your knickers in a twist about me suggesting that drivers do not have to piss in bottles and shit behind tree's. Why? They don't!

But there are Hauliers out there that do push there drivers to such extents due to 'time sensitive deliveries and collections' and put money before the welfare of their employee and there are employees that accept that. I allowed a company push me hard when I 1st started out but quickly started to stand my ground. Many don't and just accept it but there are many other employers that do give a toss and make the job a lot more balanced and attractive than the posts I've responded to suggested.

What it has to do with how I feel about care workers I don't know. I'd also say that tootling around MCR in a bus or lorry doesn't give you anywhere near as much of an insight into the industry as you think. You do not have to do 70 hour weeks and sleep on the A14 if you don't want to.
I know. I'm lucky I got out I put that in the post derrrr

I didn't tootle around MCR in a lorry never said I did.So you want a small part of the industry to be good for young people but the rest not arsed about. Wow. I'm not sure where you are expecting them to piss by the way. A lay by doesn't have a toilet.
And you then went right back to people don't have to do it if they don't want to. I gave you the benefit of the doubt but that post and not even seeing a correlation to care workers as an example even though the post actually told you why shows me not only are you very dim but a tad uncaring as well.

Enjoy your bubble and stay away from subjects that you know fuck all about and are too slow to understand people explaining it you.

It's an absolute mess. It was very difficult (without queueing for a long time) to get petrol over weekend. Getting the army in to deliver essentials shows how much of a mess we're in.

I went to Tesco last night and it was striking just how much stock was missing from the shelves, and just how many shelves had been removed. It's not just Tesco, it's Morrisons, Asda and other places too. Greggs not having some types of food in. No milkshakes at McDonalds. It's becoming noticeable, day by day, how much the supply chain issues are hitting us.

Unless something quite dramatic happens, I am genuinely worried about Christmas. If people were Christmas shopping last night in Tesco, there just wasn't enough on the shelves. Ok, it isn't Christmas, but I've never seen the shelves so empty.

Even if it happens(pinch of salt) drivers getting more money is a good thing. I think if you asked someone if they wanted an extra 50 quid a week but someone else gets 60 you wouldn't turn down the 50. Better pay is better pay. Let's face it this won't last forever. This government will import labour slowly but surely and normal service will be restored.

Any drivers out there make hay while you can business gets what it wants eventually.

People will panic buy everything till the new year because no fucker trusts the gov , with good reason, they are selfish without a doubt but we are in the main a selfish race who take everything for granted and cant cope with not having everything they want. We should have learnt that life is about the people you have and not the things in it

Better pay = higher food bills.

All other jobs aren’t getting a pay rise.

More food banks created.

Panic over, lads. Filled the tank. Shutters went down while I was filling up, so just squeaked in.

Bad news. I had to buy Supreme unleaded at £1.50 a litre.

A question, i was using the standard unleaded petrol, i had to put in the new one in, E10 is it, if the only option going foward is super unleaded will they mix ok together?

I hope so! Am out this afternoon so I guess I’ll find out :)

Yes, you'll be fine. It's the same as before when you could have E5 and Super in the same tank. Don't worry.

Too many firms tendered for work at stupidly cheap exploiting foreign workers who don't stick up for eachother. Was the same at Cartwrights who literally had an agency in Poland recruiting new workers who earned 8.50ph on a 12 hour night shift doing skilled work.

I don't want to see a return of that.

Lower pay equals lower food bills would you suggest we cut wages?

So when a particularly job gets a raise every other job in the land gets one? Never heard that logic before. Also wages in other industries have gone up.

The way to prevent food banks is to pay people less? That one is a corker I must admit

More to do with covid than Brexit. Drivers not returning to work, increased demand as industry gears up.
I agree but we're both wrong. Apparantly it's all brexits fault along with everything else that goes wrong and therefore we're all doomed. Only ants and cockroaches left I'm afraid.
