Yes, and there's no doubt that when Johnson was elected he threatened to defund them. A nationalist, populist government like this needs the national broadcaster to support its dishonesty and gaslighting. I find it profoundly sad actually.
Me too.

I'm a big supporter of the BBC and what it does. Sadly their news output drowns out all the good stuff they do as an organisation. (Awaits nonce protection arguement from usual RWNJs)

If there's any violence at Klanfield on sunday can the Echo be prosecuted for stoking it? Their obsession with us is going into overdrive.

@mat I am surprised by your post knowing your political leanings.
The BBC still refuse to pay women the same as men for doing the same job.
The Conservative govt. think they are left wing so keep threatening to defund them. This renders them as virtual puppets. Panorama used to be a hard hitting investigative programme which often focused on govt. failings now they are just a bland programme like bake off

I`d hardly call her his lapdog.
She gives the fucker a hard time and it makes him fluster so much its uncomortable for him.
I like her and she certainly doesn`t give a shit who they are when she`s interviewing them.
I can't stand the woman. Has she been taking elocution lessons from Camel Gob? It's just that both appear to talk 'arta the side o' their marves'!

It does more than TV. Their educational and ideas like BBC future are a world away from the news coverage.

I never understood why it's always been tagged as left leaning. The government of the day used to send spies in there to weed those pesky red bastards out.

The Tories are threatening it because they've never liked it for it's old news editorial of balance. Look what they are doing to Channel 4 who you could argue is the only left leaning channel on the networks.

The way the Tories scapegoated and scuppered the appointment of Jess Bramner to their board says it all.

With regards to the pay inequality it has been highlighted and is slowly being rectified. One of my favourite journalists Jane Garvey won't let that go and mentions it quite often when interviewing female colleagues on her podcast.

Gary Neville smirks at this post

"These people are supposed to be impartial professionals. They should be bloody well ashamed of themselves."

Totally and utterly agree and with the BBC particularly, which lets face facts it is a tax payer funded impartial news/entertainment corporation, it's high time the club came down hard on their agenda.

The BBC is no longer fit for purpose at any level, it's credibility for all non biased news coverage long gone.

It's now reached an even lower level than The Sun newspaper and appears desperate for credibility.
I agree with you but I'd make a distinction between the BBC's news and sports departments and the rest of its outputs.

To explain.. I'd point everyone to David Mitchell's excellent, expletive riddled rant as chairperson on 'Have I Got News..' earlier this year. This was in the immediate aftermath of the Martin Bashir/Princess Diana revelations.

In essence he said 'I'm f*cking annoyed with BBC news department because it's activities and cover ups are allowing f*ckers with agendas (eg right-wing Tories) to undermine the BBC as a whole, jeopardising those parts of the BBC such as Arts, Drama and Radio which are producing excellent work' (as I say, words to that effect)

For me, one can add the BBC sports department to the criticism levelled at its news department by David Mitchell. It is partial (especially in its football coverage); it is easily led by smart PR johnnies working for the likes of The Red Filth across town; and it plays at every turn (it seems to me) to the lowest common denominator (which is usually the fan bases supporting - in order - United, Liverpool and Arsenal).

So, I'd attack the BBC for its increasingly poor performance over the past few decades in the area of news and sports reporting/analysis whereas I'd defend its incredible achievements in bringing culture and the arts to us.

Like everyone on here along with those who go to the ground or watch us on tv, I feel that I have been blessed to see this City since 2008. All of the ups and downs prior to then were good but since the Sheikh came in, it has been nothing short of wonderful. That the wider media, including the BBC, cannot (a) enjoy what is being achieved by our club on and off the pitch and (b) fairly reflect the club's achievements, is its loss not ours.

And there may come a day when, if ever the BBC really does come under threat from those with agendas against it, the BBC's lack of defenders/supporters will be because it has alienated so many people such as us Blues along the way..

Peston doesn’t work for the BBC.

First, apologies, I realise this is the wrong thread, my first post was an off-the-cuff observation that escalated quickly. Am happy for the mods to move, and will leave this be now.

But, to respond to your post....

Semantics.

His job as a political correspondent is to use facts to get to the truth, then ask pointed questions. So ask those questions!

No more from me on this thread now.

To be honest I've never thought the BBC had any anti-City bias at all. Plenty of coverage, interviews, analysis and features in my experience. They've practically got Noel Gallagher on a retainer.

Good post.

I have to say I'm a fan of Radio 5 sports coverage but I'm very selective on what I listen to. There's lots of good City stuff on there if you filter through the shit.

Yep broadly I agree with this if you filter the crap and don't bother with the website or social.
Having said that, sometimes on the website there are proper objective articles which are a totally different tome to the clickbait headlines.

I get that, along with the arguments many on here post regarding their out-and-out antipathy to the BBC, license fee and all..

However, the past few days has once again shown up the football media (including the BBC) in its true colours; witness the dreadful, partial coverage of our game at PSG ('The Messi Show' as I refer to it) and compare it to 'The 2nd Coming Fest' during and after United's abysmal showing versus Villareal last night.

Those true colours are presented whenever there is comment made about City, in the form of anything from (at worst) downright misrepresentations (eg Dan Roan and the like) to (at best) underhand, sly digs even when they're damning our club with faint praise.

For City, it's pretty much a continuum of negativity; for the favoured clubs, it's massaging a collective ego.

And it's all in the name of click-bait to generate revenue for those media outlets which are quite happy to play along with the bidding of those controlling the favoured clubs who hate our club for having gatecrashed their cosy, financially rewarding cartel..
