Because they’ve made a profit over the last three years, and spent on the academy which can be excluded, and are allowed to make a loss of £105m over three years = they should be able to spend circa £200m in the next window without breaking ffp.

Presumably they could then spend circa £50-70m (their usual transfer spend plus the allowed loss of £35m) per season on an ongoing basis, plus whatever they can grow the revenue by. But less their increased wage bill. It will take a while to build a squad to compete at the very top if those constraints are real. It’s going to be interesting to see how they go about it.

As I understand it, transfer fees are not booked in one go, they are amortised over the length of the contract. So they could buy a £100m player on a five year contract, and it'd cost them £20m a year, not £100m next year. I could be wrong on that. But as you say, they will have to add wages onto that, and players going for that kind of money to a team in the bottom half will expect to be overpaid, which could make things difficult. It won't take much for their wages and transfer fees to put them in the red. We had older players on big contracts for years (Bellamy, Adebayor, Kolo Toure, etc), and we only got away with it because FFP was introduced after those contracts were signed (and they still tried to screw us over). An important question is when their current sponsorship deal runs out, because no doubt that'll be their main way of getting around FFP in the short term.

Another interesting question is how they're doing in January, because if they're still hovering around the relegation zone, it'll be a big gamble for players to go there.

One thing they probably won't have is the thing of a new owner spending big and then getting cold feet or running out of money, which always helps.

She is out in the media parroting on because it takes the light away from the actual backers. The key headlines I have seen from the reports are how shes going to move the Shearer statue and welcome back Keegan. Its all a load of PR nonsense to get the fans onside and fair play to them, its going to work.

Newcastle fans are going to town (literally) to celebrate.

I have argued for years on here that if Khaldoon or Sheikh Mansour really gave a fuck about this so called bad press, they would have put a stop to it. They haven't because we have better things to be doing like winning trophies, getting huge sponsorships and pushing our revenue past all of our competitors. If the bad press was bad as people think and not just some ex rags and dippers and some bent reporters parroting information from backhanders then they would be hiring the best PR in the world, sending out legal challenges and everything in between. To put it frankly, they don't give a fuck so why should I.
Sitting outside in the garden, beautiful evening. This was the first thing I read and had to say like, like, like! Something I wish I had said long ago. Mazletov !

Because you're a fan and they're not.

I don’t think the same narrative will be used when talking about Newcastle as is used with us. For some unknown reason there’s already this myth of them being this sleeping giant just waiting to bask in the glory of yesteryears again. The fuckers deserted their club after a few losses back in the day with crowds down to 10,000 or less and they only came back when they started winning games the slapped arse gobshites. The media created this myth there’s no way they’re going to suddenly drop it.

Still reckon the premier League will have a say here , this is the ultimate exercise in how to use VAR and refs to manipulate a situation to your advantage . It only needs some well placed decisions and the Newcastle bandwagon runs into a brick wall and they are relegated , Newcastle don't go away per se, but it gives the red teams time to plan their strategy and get rules changed .

Rubbish, the backlash has already started.

Newcastle once they become a threat and it's certain and only a matter of time, will become the most hated club in the country, taking out mantle.

Before us it was Chelsea , the takeover at Newcastle has done us a favour in terms of PR and it also creates even more competition which again is good for us, keeps us on our toes.

One thing I’ve noticed when people are banding about names they might go for, is comments like ‘he won’t go there. He’ll end up at a R Madrid or Manchester City’.

A sign of how far we’ve come, where and who we are and the huge journey ahead for Newcastle if they’re going to ever be where we are.

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Think they will try to get a big manager early doors, wouldn't be surprised to see mourinho there.
Also might be good for us to move some players onto when they are aging and wanting a final payday... can't see sterling going there though

Well it is only a ten year journey really and Pep plays a huge factor in that. Without Pep at the club I think City's pull of the top players is reduced significantly. Fortunately he has taken us to another level and our owners will always be smart enough to balance transfer market expenditure with academy investment, but Real Madrid remain in a bracket far far above most other clubs.

There wont be many players out there now outside of Manchester who have dreamt of putting the City shirt on since being a kid. There are plenty that want to play for Pep though. And there will be plenty that are happy with big wages!

Talks about us from ten minutes in

20:15 in sums it up. He says fuck the big 6, just like we’ve been saying over the years, fuck the big teams at the top. He’s been to thick to realise that Chelsea and City have been good for English football. Once Newcastle get up to speed and ready for a challenge, our league will be the most competitive in the world by quite a distance. Potentially five teams going into a season with a realistic chance of winning the title (hopefully Ole stays at United and makes that four teams).

It does make me laugh how right we’ve all been over the years. I’ve always called the haters jealous of our success and this **** back tracking is the finest example of it. Any football fan would love to be in our position, we haven’t sold our soul or any of that bollocks. We’re watching the best football we’ve ever seen with some world class footballers playing for us. Imagine not wanting this.

I think their getting to the Europa League level will be difficult. They will be in a mini league of five or six teams to fight for two places. Top four at the moment is a more certain mini league. They will have to work with Mendes, Pogba's agent or someone else to bring along a stable of players. From there, the rise will be meteoric.
I have never really understood this phrase. Surely meteors come down not go up?

"I'd absolutely love it"

If Newcastle manage to achieve what we have achieved it'll be great.

Imagine a premier league where the rags and dippers can only dream of finishing above either of us and falling over themselves in a desperate attempt to remain relevant.

As long as the red top vermin are kept in their place and are left pining for those golden years I'll be more than happy.
Exactly my thoughts

Anything that fucks up the rags and the dippers should be supported

We have also learned that the £305million deal — led by Saudi’s £700billion Public Investment Fund (PIF) — was strongly resisted throughout by Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, with Spurs said to be the chief agitator in lobbying the Premier League to deny the Saudis entry to the top flight. [ Daily Mail ]

Apparently we and Chelsea aren't in the Revolt. It's the yanks
Of course it is, mate. Nobody complains when American scavengers come in to pick the bones from prominent PL clubs, or even mid-table clubs like Burnley, but as soon as they come from the East of the UK then there’s uproar.

This is not about human rights as nobody really gives a fuck in this country, that’s why we have such a government, it’s all about the thought of ’Skys Champions’ having another competitor to deal with while taking more and more money out of their club’s.

This might have already been asked
What is the relationship like between our owners and theirs?
Would there be any needle when we play them or will our owners be quite happy with the Saudis coming in ?

Still no reply to why now. Why not property, why not arms, why not horse riding, why not formula one. Absolute silence on that one.
Couple of political journalists I respected have weighed in too, not interested in sports and asked the same question, no reply.
I'm sorry people are suffering in some countries but they could start with here, so could Amnesty.

Absolutely it is, no surprise to read this.

I mentioned earlier that this takeover will piss off the yanks, especially FSG.

Fantastic
