Mary D's The Townley or another?

Like Mary D occasionally .. took schalke pals there before that game

But loving Ancoats at the moment
Rudys last week then the Cask

The Townley is a better pint, and an option to watch the early KO. MD’s is great if you wanted to show off how great City fans are, but the big but is the beer is still very poor. The old Eastlands was a good pub till it was turned into a shop. To be honest, me personally, if we have an early or late KO time, then I’ll venture into town to meet up with fellow blues.

There’s an old pub by the Holt Town tram stop, think it used to be called the ‘Bank of England’? Been boarded up for years, I’ve often thought it would make a perfect traditional style pub for match days. I wouldn’t even mind if City themselves bought it..just seems a crying shame to see a traditional old pub deteriorate.

It’ll be knocked down and turned into flats of course, sooner or later.

Weren’t there rumours of City opening a match day ‘pub’ a couple of years ago? Or did that idea morph into the ‘Ardrwick’ pub-style corporate area shite?

It used to open up unlicensed before home games a few years back. I went in there for a few pints. I’m sure I read somewhere that it was being bought and there was a plan to reopen it.

Place just rips kids off selling fizzy Lucazade to kids who never had the chance to drink proper beer instead of chemically generated flavoured alcohol

Each to their own but I don’t understand why anyone drinks watered down piss in plastic cups crammed in like sardines in a shithole near the ground when a city centre with hundreds of quality food and drink places is a 10 minute £8 taxi ride away.

Town then taxi/walk to the ground.

If I have one near the ground it's the townley, not been in Ds for about 8 years, the place is terrible booze wise

If anyone wants to open a pub themselves and run it, or get some management in to run it, then we're close to the optimum time. Pubs or bars are going to open up when the concert venue opens because it will mean that there is a constant stream of people. The area is crying out for a pub where you can eat before and after the game.

So far it's not viable because apart from the football, if you wanted to go out you'd go into town for a drink or food, but when the concert venue opens and 20k are coming in every day, and they all walk down one route, it's imo a good idea. Also a newsagent, bakery etc.

Why don't some blues get together and buy up an old building, do it up and re-open it and go for it. get the timing right, be the first ones to do it and it might work.

A nice old building would be ideal but are there any? Share the risk by getting a few blues together whose dream it has always been to run a pub.

There’s not really an atmosphere in the Townley, it’s just a place to have a drink and a chat.

I can’t get my head around how few boozers there are around the ground. There used to be more round there before the stadium was built than there are now. Bizarre!

I agree with some of the points above. It’s bizarre that there’s barely any pubs near the ground. The people that live round there have no pubs, barely any restaurants .. it s not great if you want to go out

if some city fans have some money please buy one of the shut down pubs or make a pub in town a city pub. Don’t know why this hasn’t happened already

Not been in Mary D's for years. I remember taking a Fulham supporting mate and his kid in there once and every time they have been up since he's asked if we are going in the big white shouty pub!

It is not too shocking, on none match days the pubs are empty bar a few residents, in east Manchester there must be over 200+ pubs that have dissapeared in the last 30 years.

Add to that the police discourage liscences for closed pubs to reopen near the ground as it is close to town and far easier to handle masses of fans in the city centre than the local residential area

The old landlord from Mary Ds came down to my mate’s wedding the other week. He moved to America after having Ds.

Because it's nice to talk about but risky to put your life savings into it? I think it's a viable idea but it would require a bit of bottle. People with experience and connections in the building trade (Worsley?) might be more confident, or they might know more about the risks. Didn't brewers used to own pubs and then get in managers? Perhaps City should think about a similar set-up.

I think Neville and co have a stake in Hotel Football near old toilet?
