It's the essentially the same thing . Your basically playing a no 10 instead of a striker . I don't agree with it . Unless you have Messi, xavi and inesta in your team and you are able to completely dominate the ball, which city are far from doing.

Against the bigger teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, it won't work.

Hmm.

To think that we've potentially got at least another 10 seasons of brilliance from him on top of this.

Cracking game again today. If Grealish is a £100m player then we need to stick a £70m buy out clause in Foden's new contract.

You have got to be taking the piss?

I've read that through twice now.
Nope, still don't get what you're trying to say.

Ballon'dor winner within 2 years. It also doesn't really matter what position he plays because he will adapt and be the best player on the pitch wherever it be right wing, left wing, false 9 or deep lying midfield playmaker.
Just enjoy him because we won't see many more like him.

I sort of agree with the point you’re making. You’re just being an asshole and digging yourself a hole with it won’t win the CL or against top sides. It most definitely works, you’d be insane thinking that it can’t / doesn’t work.

Personally, the data in relations to City over the last 10 years says that having a WC striker doesn’t affect results like you would think it would. In general, we won more points when Kelechi was in over Sergio and when Gabby slots in there wasn’t a drop off either. Same with the false nine. The ‘striker’ in City system ranks last between the false 8’s and wingers in terms of importanceA striker genuinely only gets a few important touches / chances per game and the total value of having a total footballer in that position out weights the gains you get from having a pure striker.

The position is vastly overrated if you have a squad full of total footballers. Pep is proving this is optimal.

**Having said that. I’d love to see what Pep does next if he extends and gets Haaland.

I do think an exceptional striker would make a difference but requires them to be at Sergio's level at the very least. The biggest problem, if you will, with Kun was that he had too many injuries. If Aguero had the fitness of say Messi, his contribution would have been far higher than it was but it was damn good.

The bottom line is we have to buy a striker who is going to make better contribution as our central striker than, for example, playing Phil Foden as a "false" nine. That is an increasingly tall order.

or, like, just no release clause at all ?

Right that have not stopped PSG buy Neymar because Barca thought no sane club will buy him at that price.

Still absolutely ridicilious that Newcastle can pay amount of that for just one player for example.

Its like a set of scales, on one side we have the control and possession, the other scoring and cutting edge.
Any striker we buy has to add to the scoring but not take too much off the control side. Very few strikers will do that. And as you say the more clinical we become with the midfielders like Foden and maybe Torres then the less strikers there are that become ‘right’ for that balance. In fact by the end of the season we may well be saying only one or two makes it worth sacrificing that balance for and if we can’t get them we carry on with the false 9.
