COP26

Anyway, here's overall emissions by country showing who are the biggest polluters. No real surprises.

On the other hand, if it's done per capita it can be seen which countries have the most to do if we assume that emissions per head is the fairer measure. If that's the case there's a few countries that are a lot worse than you might think like Australia, most of the gulf states and some central Asian countries, as well as the more obvious ones in North America.

The complete refusal to admit you just misspoke or were wrong is what's so amazing.

It really wouldn't be that hard to say, yeah, "of course using trees that can regrow in 20 years is more renewable than gluing everything together with 65 million year old lime, I just misspoke while juggling lots of stuff on air".

There's another bit where he even realises that concrete releases "a huge amount of CO2" but can't quite make the logical leap to realising he was wrong to take the piss out of wood being renewable.

Even the Express has changed its headline from one of supporting Graham's handling of the interview to recognising he was a dick. There's only Graham himself left pathetically tweeting that he's right and all the lefties are wrong.

Not only the lefties I would say his entire viewing audience which probably is mostly lefties mind you keen to post his faux pas.

1% of people cause over 50% of all emissions from flying and they are, obviously, the super rich and governments, who fly about in their private jets. These flights should now be subject to huge worldwide taxes, used to offset what they’re up to.

I mention this because the COP26 features, 2 private airfields to accommodate over 100 private jets. Obviously none of the passengers in these jets are subject to quarantine, Covid passes or proof of a negative test.
Roads are closed or are designated as COP26 only lanes.
Looks like some animals are more equal than others..

Meanwhile Johnson turns up in a massive plane and gets in a Land Rover whilst telling us: “Together we can reduce our emissions. We can radically cut our dependence on fossil fuels.” Once again governments pretending we’re all in this together.

Wasn't concrete a slang word for weed many years ago.

its actually the process of making cement around 15 per cent of concrete that is co2 extensive.

the elites are always don't do as I do , just do as I say otherwise how would they get to these positions in the main in the first place.

At the same time having gotten their gains whether they be by fair or foul means some turn their hand to honourable causes.

Where I draw the line is that many ask for government hand outs to " invest " in their renewable energy or co2 friendly projects.

if the idea and technology are worth the risk they will make a lot more money down the track.

Granted to get to where they are they were prepared to try a dream that consumers eventually flock to and financiers are prepared to back so it shouldn't be any different when it comes " saving the planet ".

Boris is just another brick in the all with a stage to crow but as you allude to his carbon footprint will always be bigger than most and he won't be around other than give more lip service if he still has a platform to do so once he leaves his post.

Once Johnson leaves his post that will be last we see of him.

I can see him hogging the airwaves in between rumpy bumpy's with his current wife banging on about how he would have done things differently but I take your point.

he is no leader in my book not even a great follower but believes in himself as a wonderful marketing man.

Cutting tax on internal flights the week before this has rendered us once again a laughing stock, helped along by the man in charge saying recycling is useless after years of harrassing us all to do it

Stop manufacturers wrapping everything in plastic , things like easter eggs ( i dream of those being on keto ), do something fucking sensible for a change

China not on board - Johnson's dream is falling apart

he's got no more influence over China than you and me, the long phone call probably ended with two words from Xi, the second one being off! That he couldn't be bothered to turn up says it all

This country could go back to the stone henge and it will not make one iota of a difference to the climate change! Every fucker around the world come here preaching Marches when this Country is doing more the. Most! go to Russia China America India where getting them to change WILL make the difference!

I suspect no one thinks that building lots of circles of huge stones will help with climate change.

China is actually doing more than anyone else but they're fighting a moving target. They grow by 5% every year so they have to increase their power output to match that. The only option they have to respond quickly to their growth is to choose cheap and easy power which is burning coal.

It's not that they aren't doing anything or are ignoring it because that's not true, the problem is they prioritise growth above all else. They're competitiveness for your money is why more or less everything you buy was probably made in China and they aren't going to change their entire economic model to help the environment.

The only pressure we can put on them is through global economic sanctions on imports but that isn't going to happen because we're just shooting in ourselves in the foot because goods will become more expensive.

The whole thing is pointless and there's nothing we can do about it. All we can do is switch ourselves to renewables or nuclear and sleep easy in our bed knowing we did what we could anyway.
