Ref Watch

I think Foden was offside just about but the offside line didn't seem right. How can a kneecap make you a foot offside?

The laws of the game should be applied equally not just to both teams but consistently over the 90 minutes of the game. Can someone please explain to me what their kepper did differently in the 85th minute to get that yellow card than to what he was doing throughout from the 6th minute?

Didn’t give a f*ck today.

Set the tone by allowing the Palace keeper to waste time from the 1st minute. Allowed 2 cynical fouls by Palace players at the start of the game to go unpunished.

Shocking performance by Marriner. But he will get away with it.
Why did he not watch what the keeper was doing, he kept running to the half way line with his back to the keeper not watching the goal kick and the keepers time wasting. To give him a card on the 85 th minute, what the point.

Yes it’s frustrating that their keeper takes an age with goal kicks running the click down, there must have been 20 of them today.

But we know he’s going to do it! So stop letting the ball go dead! Make sure you hit the target, make the keeper work! But no, ballooned efforts from distance, over hit crosses, failed dribbles result in countless goal kicks and more opportunities to let the clock tick down. It’s hard to fathom that players that can control the ball so effectively all over the pitch lose composure within sight of goal
Also don’t gift your opponent the opening goal.

Not often I’m hoarse purely from screaming abuse at the ref. He was an utter disgrace. Is it an actual rule that keepers can’t be booked for time wasting until after the 85th minute ? Half the time he had his back turned to the time wasting, he was even pissing about near the touch line with the 4th official at one point while the keeper was faffing about.

And it might’ve been a sending off in todays game but it wasn’t clearcut enough to be overturned by var had he not given it but he couldn’t fuckin wait to pull the red card out.

Because the stats show he booked the keeper. The fact he left it until so late was entirely predictable

If a player runs up and kicks the ball away every time there was a free kick he’d be booked after doing it a couple of times, so why the fuck are goalkeepers not booked for time wasting at goal kicks? It’s the same thing in principal as kicking the ball away. So why are they treated differently?

We were timing it the first half and the goal kicks were taking anything between 35-55 seconds at times. The ball must have been out one play for about 10 minutes in the first half just from the keeper time wasting, then if you include throwins and freekicks they took too long over fuck knows how long it was out of play.

Yet that **** in the middle added 2 minutes on at the end of the first half and only 5 mins at the end of the game despite all 6 subs being used (therefore again only 2 mins for the time wasting).

It has to be said though, and it’s been the same right back to when Kompany was captain… DSilva Fernandinho deBruyne Gundogan and now Dias… where the fuck is our captain when this is going on?! They should be confronting the ref after the second time it happens, and none of our captains ever speak to the refs about it. And none of our managers ever bring it up post-game.

He was laughing about it at one point, Marriner.

Sometimes he was talking to players so it made it lol like he didn’t notice the keeper was time wasting. Like he thinks everyone is a fool.

Id be surprised if the ball was in play for more than an hour today. A hell of a lot - more than ever - of young people have no interest in football these days, and even long standing fans are switching off from the sport… and you can see why. The game is going backwards in many respects and ball-in-play stats is one of them.

From Jesus’ shot going in to the restart after the check must’ve been the best part of 3 mins. What the fuck are these cunts basing the amount of added time on ? Seems to be just a random guess.

Ruben was talking to Marriner in the tunnel when they came out for the second half. Made no difference. We were getting shafted today whether we liked it or not.

Has to be immediately in the game from our captain though. By half time it could have happened 15 times, 35 seconds each. It’s too late at half time.

The booking needs to come at least by the third time the keeper does it, easily doors. It would if it was a player running up and kicking the ball away at free kicks.

I agree with you and it could make a difference sometimes, not today though. Marriner had it in for us from the start. He booked Ederson for trying to break up the fracas at the end of the first half and let Zaha off the hook.

That's the kind of bullshit we were up against today. It didn't help that half the team played as they had just met either.

This is exactly what Jonny Moss did last time he got his iron lung pressurised. "Goal kick? Ah, time for me to get my breath back as I walk slowly back to the halfway line. If he still hasn't taken the kick when I turn round in the centre circle, I'll give him a wave." They don't bother. I think it is this kind of shitty reffing that will drive away fans from the game far sooner than having to suffer decades of a shit team. I kept saying to the guys next to me that he will book him on 87 mins. It turned out to be 85. Why a booking on 85 mins when the wastrel has been taking the piss at every goal kick for 84 mins? I can imagine what would be said if one of the Whistling Wankers ignored other infringements of the LotG for 84 mins. I find it totally insulting, having paid hard earned to get a seat and then see an opposition goalkeeper deny us five minutes of playing time each half. Two minutes at HT was another joke. I think a freshly scooped dog turd off the towpath of the Ashton Canal prior to kick off was about the standard of reffing today. And while I'm on the rant, the picture of the VAR offside goal was pretty clear - why did it take so long when I nailed offside two seconds after seeing the screen. I smell a VAR rat. Had they superimposed a pair of size 16 boots on Foden so that his toe nail was nearer the goal line? And another, their offside goal began with the forward collecting the ball five yards behind our last defender, three touches and he 'scores', and the lino puts up his flag. It was blatantly obvious the only outcome would be offside. Perhaps the wankers were waiting for the Palace time-waster on the goal line to run 115 fuckin' yards past everybody and toe-end it in?

Roll on Wednesday!

And why do we only have one ball boy covering the entire length of the touch line. If we’re not able to save valuable time by using the multi ball system that mysteriously appeared and disappeared very quickly then why can’t we be more proactive and have loads of ballboys dotted around to shovel the ball quickly back to our players.
