You have to remember the context of where he's speaking. He's in Barcelona, at the unveiling of his friend as new manager.

He's always going to try and big up Barca in that situation. If he was actually worried about them stealing our players he wouldn't be saying that.
Barcelona and Madrid will always have the 'pinstripes' draw the Yankees have regardless of what they are winning at the time. (and they overpay on wages like a mf)

For clarity, City Xtra took the liberty to make that about Sterling. It was not. It was a general question on doing transfers with Barcelona. Given Pep and Xavi are pals. It was a loaded question anyway, and now they have gone and loaded the answer as well.

does dembele even play these days

Id risk it. If Pep could get him going again we would have an amazing player. His injury issues are bad but Barca’s medical team and physio team are shit from what Aguero explained.

Definitely a loan swap tester on that one. Kid is always falling to bits

This article says it all...

I would love it if we have him, he could compete with rodri for that spot. We would be so loaded though with quality midfield players someone is going to be unhappy with playing time

He also knows they havent got a pot to piss in, so we could interpret his statement as a dig at Barca if we wanted.

Frankly I will support any player who pulls on the shirt..thick and thin..do not buy into criticising players.
However, if a player wishes to leave then that is a totally different scenario..if they wish to go, agree with Pep, then go.Nothing is certain at this moment in time regards Raheem. However, it is not difficult to understand why we bought Grealish. Sadly suspect the issue is Raheem values himself more than the club do.So be it. Can not wait to hear him do his first interview in Spanish.

Will be very sad to lose Raz tbh. Something very “city” about him. If he wants to go though then he will. He’s served us well

would be a massive statement signing for someone like Newcastle but can’t see that happening tho
Don't think Sterling fancies the Championship at this point of his career.

also I wonder how much raheem sterling possibly leaving factored into the club buying jack grealish. Raheem was one of the most marketable players on our squad, a trendsetter. Jack grealish can be seen as the same, with raheem gone grealish will fill that role.

God knows what has happened behind the scenes over the last 18 months but he clearly doesn't want to be here anymore. Will be very sad to see him go, though.

Exactly! There is no denying Pep's love of Barcelona and i would never expect him to be disrespectful towards them. He knows how to play the media and also how to be the diplomat!
However, he is City through and through and i cannot even begin to thank him, for all that he has done for our wonderful club and will continue to do for us in the years ahead, however many that may be!!
