Everton (H) - Post-Match Thread

Rodri is a great player. He’s evolved the fern role.
Have been unsure, but this season he has been magnificent. Interesting that this has coincided with his comments that he feels at home here. Just needed time to settle in and play in the Pep system.

Happy with that, quality performance which we rarely see after the international break.

Bigger tests will come for Palmer but I thought he was excellent. McAtee showed a glimpse so the future looks bright.

Rodri MOTM for me, he was excellent, Bernardo right behind him.

Think I woke the house up at half 1 in the morning when Rodri thundered that one in, but they'll all get over it.
Lol, I have an awful record already, they tell me, get clear warnings that eventually a police officer will ring on my door bell. My reaction to both first and second goal has added more to that, I'm afraid...

No I remember that as well, we got beat 2-1 and you are right it was extremely cold that night as well. But the the nil all game was fucking freezing. It was the night we should of got a penalty near the end of the match with John Stones pulling Raz Sterling down.
Yeah I realised soon as I had posted. I stand corrected said the man in the orthopaedic shoes.

- That game typified where Sterling currently is. He worked hard, looked better when he had a chance to beat a man, and still has an instinct when he doesn't have chance to think about anything. But give him a second or two to decide and he still wants a touch when he shouldn't need one. I think we are past coaching that out of him, just hope he can limit it like he did when he was his best.

it must be a nightmare for the manager ? pep and city have done all they can and back him all the way and never once said a bad word in public. its just something city picked up far to late when we signed him to change sterling.
it must have been with him since a kid and players do have panic problems because they can see the bigger picture before it happens.

but the truth is sterling was never a striker and its only when pep signed that we played him in a 3 or the false 9
for me we all ask far to much from sterling because of the missing strikers ?

Two goals that will live long in the memory and an all round dominant display against a team we used to fear playing. When you see Sterling score a cracker and Mahrez hustling and harrying to win back possession, then you know you've seen a good performance.

Certainly helped lighten the gloom after this morning's sad news.

Professional football at its best.
I’m not rodris’ biggest fan but credit where it’s due he’s getting cleverness in his game. Must be that degree. Great strike as well.
That’s true, though tbf Everton today wasn’t exactly the toughest challenge he will have faced this season ;-)

Laporte sometimes looks a bit unnatural in that left CB position, when he shouldn’t. I thought he had a few shaky moments again today.

I thought we played well overall. Bit slow first 30 mins and a tad sloppy in the last 15 until we scored, although much better than Everton who were awful.

Great goal from Rodri and the Cancelo pass to Sterling for the first was sublime.

Palmer got better as the game went on but needs to work on his decision making which was poor at times.

Easy win overall.

Everton fans v quiet again today. Always have the numbers but quiet as mice . Maybe loss after loss every season just sucks the optimism out of them before the game has even started. Burnley fans the same earlier in the season. What was going on in SS3 after the Rodri goal? Noticed Stewards and police rushing to form a line up there.
Bit of handbags but, the blue dips like the red dips like a good spit dirty fuckers, luckily I'm out of gobbing distance where I'm sat in SS3. A few cops went up but didn't seem to do anything apart from stand there.

Can't we focus on the one he did score - the important breakthrough goal remember - rather than the one he didn't ? Sterling on the right first half was very dangerous, worked hard and linked up well. Capped it off with that excellent goal from Cancelo's sublime pass. Yes the sitter he missed is frustrating as hell but overall his contribution was a good one.

As soon as I saw McAtee backheel that ball inside the penalty area and then keep the ball, it was like a David Silva flashback.

Jesus Christ.

Keep making me eat my words, Rodri. With Bernie being your water carrier, you look like a Rolls Royce this season.

Have to agree with Pep, Walker is exhibiting form on a transcendental level.

Laporte is my only concern, every time I've watched him of late, he panics when getting far too touch tight.

Certainly lost a yard or two since the injury.

Laporte is shite.

The players were at it from the off today and even at 0 0 there didn't seem to be that worry of a slip up today like against Palace.

3rd gear performance against a shocking Everton side, Rodri excellent motm by a mile. Also how quiet were the Everton fans, one song sang about three times. They know they're in deep trouble
