The 'severe disease' part was always the point of the vaccines. Not to stop you catching it or even spreading it. Any advantage in that repect conveyed by them is a bonus. But protecting the health service from being overwhelmed by patients in icu for weeks on end was the aim and making the virus of minimal impact on most people not catastrophic impact on lots is the future even with them. Not eradication. We are way past that being possible. Vaccines do not usually exist to even hope to do that.

Perhaps someone could invent a mask with a built in straw that could be replaced by a fag when not in use.

Just a quick read of the last 10 pages tells you we're unlikely to be clear of Covid anytime soon. Selfish, horrible twats everywhere bleating on about their 'rights' and thinking by going against the grain it shows they aren't going to be told what to do by those in charge, like they are hero's of the free world or something.

Imagine being in the trenches with these wankers..
 
Just back from Hillsborough Morrisons, where mask wearing has left from about 10% (including me) to near enough 100% overnight. Security guard turned away refusenik.

Oddly Morrisons also busiest I've seen it since New Years Day (Tuesday 11am); possibly a lot of older folk seem safer returning to shop in person with a mask mandate.
 
Here's another article from today suggesting that Omicron may actually be to our advantage - if so we, we should all do our bit and get infected with it to push out Delta and we can all live happily ever after.

Omicron could kill off Delta​

The high level of contagiousness, paired with very mild symptoms, may make Omicron a blessing in disguise.

Looking at the first data coming out of Southern Africa, virologist Marc van Ranst said this weekend that “if the omicron variant is less pathogenic but with greater infectivity, allowing Omicron to replace Delta, this would be very positive.”

The WHO warned that preliminary evidence suggests the variant has an increased risk of reinfection and may spread more rapidly than other strains, including Delta.

They said there is early evidence to suggest Omicron has an “increased risk of reinfection” and its rapid spread in South Africa suggests it has a “growth advantage”.

“It is extremely important we need to closely monitor the clinical data of Omicron patients in South Africa and worldwide,” Van Ranst stressed.
