The Kippax

I've said it before on here. At a time in my life when, for various reasons, there were tensions between myself and my parents (and my sister, come to that), I desperately needed to get out of the house, and cycle miles away up to Moss Side. The Kippax was home. First girlfriend, I took her and showed her my ‘home’. She was a brave soul, when I think about it.
Also took my first girlfriend on the Kippax and to the 69 FA Cup final and the the 70 League cup final,we won them both.

47 years ago yesterday aged 11 - my 1st ever time at Maine Road and the magic of The Kippax terrace. We had visited my mum's aunt who lived on Kippax Street (2nd house up from the corner of Claremont Road) and me and my 2 brothers pestered my parents to let us go to the game....
0-0 v Wolves
just to let you lot all know. when i first stood on Kippax there were no roof on it nor was there one on scoreboard end or platt ;lane.F.O.C.

Do you remember you were allowed to climb over the wall at the bottom of the Platt Lane and go into the Kippax if you fancied it... certainly for some games anyway
At the scoreboard end there was a gate in the railings and an old codger charged you 6d to go thru to the Kippax. We er just jumped over the wall on most occasions.

What a stand!
Nothing like it.
Where Else would they put thousands of opposing fans separated by a single line of plod?
Oh the memories.
Aerial bombardments of Bottles of piss, darts, coins.
You staked a claim on your place and that was yours for evermore.
No separation when I first stood there. I do remember an almighty scuffle when, guess who, the dippers arrived.

Oh yes. Became a firm City fan. But the Kippax was not the most welcoming place for women, especially young ones, let's be honest.
Debbie (RIP) did ok back in the 70's.................game as fuck in her Wrangler jacket, and brother I think

I lived in Gorton back then. "G O R ....T O N

Gorton blues are here again......."

"We are the Kippax psycho mafia"..................hahahahahahaha

"You'll never make the station"

"it's time for you to run.......so fuck off"

Absolutely loved being on that terrace, the noise, the smell and falling down 20 steps when we scored. So glad I got to spend many many match days on there.
Yep, Just a total different environment we're in now. But from being took by my old fella as a young Kid to eventually going with my mates some of the best times in my life on the Kippax.

Traveled up with a couple of mates from worcestershire in 1987 to buy tickets for the league cup Qf against Everton.
we asked if we could take a look around the ground and were told no problem the side gate is open but keep
off the waterlogged areas of the pitch and took these photos
