Coronavirus (2021) thread

I’ve followed all the rules with Covid but is it just the right thing to do now and just lead a normal life? I think nearly everyone will be exposed to Omicron so is it worth isolating if you get it? I’ve posted before, my Dad is 89 next week, had a heart attack at 53 and takes medication to help. I asked him if he wanted his small family to test as we are in daily contact with him, categorically says he values his time with us over catching Covid.

I watched the Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer fishing programme over Christmas, a Doctor Patel said loneliness is as detrimental on health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Think it's a case of being a bit careful now rather than hiding away.

Was at my wife's father's funeral a couple of days ago everyone had a LFT and some households didn't make it.

Taking my mates daughter back to Uni in Nottingham next Saturday (he's in the car too so it's all innocent) but, I've asked them to do one as well before we travel.

Mrs Moon is not only in a vulnerable group having had a Stem Cell transplant a few years ago but is also technically on just one jab so far, second PF the day we play Chelsea as she'd had Novavax on trial Nov & Dec '19 and until last month the NHS refused to give her any approved vaccine on top of it.

Careful is the way forward. If I get it it's likely to be at City, I've been getting in very early, trying not to have a HT piss and leaving once the steps from SS3 are clear....can only do so much. It's all a live, life balance these days.

Fair play pal, my Dad says he’s lived too long, if he was younger with issues like the ones you live with I’d certainly be more cautious.

Btw, played golf at Ashton yesterday, not bad with all the rain we’ve had, only 4 months or so before you make an appearance, have a good 2022.

My neighbour has covid.

Yet his son and family stayed over for 3 days over Christmas. He has just had more family members turn up. At least these 4 put on masks before going in. Those 4 are going between him and his next door neighbour !

I dont think he has it bad as he was out doing something to his car yesterday.

He lives with his missus so isnt on his own.

Hehe, may start in mid March again, was chatting to my BIL at the funeral who tells me Oldham is a nice course and was trying to get me to have a game there.

Off topic but if you like golf and mountaineering Oldham is the place. I was a member there for 4 years, it’s hilly, not well looked after and we never felt welcome there, the low handicappers were “clicky”, mind you it was 30 years ago! It’s about a tenner to get on and they’re doing an offer for this year, £650 for TWO members, Ashton is just shy of a bag of sand, tells you all you need to know :-).

This is my stepfathers first Christmas without my Mum. She died in March. He’s 80. Every Xmas plan he had has been cancelled by one family member or another testing positive. He’s gone nowhere. He should have been at ours for a party 2 days ago, but my daughter and family who were joining us tested positive on Xmas day. So we have moved our party to Monday. My stepdad is begging us not to take lft as he can’t bear anything else to go tits up. I feel for him. Was spending Xmas alone worth it to avoid Covid.

Everyone has to make their own decisions. I missed Christmas Day at my Mum’s as I waited for PCR results. I went over on Boxing Day having received the negative result.

Most people will get very mild Covid, especially with Omicron in the ascendancy. A small minority will be unlucky. My mate Gaz gave Covid to his Mum, who died (earlier in the pandemic so ore Omicron), He’s a broken man and will have to live with that. Life can be very tough for the unlucky,

Antiviral medication rollout in 2022 should put us back on the road to normality..

lets all hope for a better new year and covid-19 can be just in the back ground instead of in the mainstream
i hope to god the top doctors are right that its weakening and not as bad. but the 2nd part of winter will be the biggest test and result will mean the year ahead will be better

Exactly how I felt, didn’t test and couldn’t have left the old fella on his own, he would have been desperately lonely, best wishes to you, an awful situation to be in.

Mrs tested on two lft's this morning after feeling a bit rough . First test had a faint line second was a stronger line. She says it's the worst sore throat shes ever had! Weird thing is she lateral flowed all week due to plans with family but nothing showed up until today. Pcrs on route through the post as closest drive in is somewhere in north Wales. Cant make this up!

Hopefully just the mild omicron, LFT’s are rarely false positives, plenty of paracetamol and fluids and she should be fine.

If staff in shops can’t be arsed wearing masks then neither can I.

Just been to Go Outdoors and Morrisons in Cheadle and not a mask to be seen anywhere on any of the staff.

I don’t blame them at all really - must be a right pain in the arse wearing one of those things for 8 hours on a minimum wage shift.

Nosey?

Anecdotal evidence

Mum and Dad both 60's - triple jabbed
Sisters Bf - immuno compromised - double jabbed & dose of covid
Brother and his pregnant GF - double jabbed & dose of covid

All had it over Christmas period, their experience was like a bad cold, happily all better now

Sister and myself who are triple jabbed and a previous dose of covid, spent hours with them in doors the days before they came down with it and didn't catch anything.

Seems the booster and a breakthrough infection might be best protection
