Not a silly amount then.

I was half expecting £350k-£400k.

No but I wouldn't put it past them for a younger player. In regards to FFP they can spend a lot but they have to be mindful of the wages only rising by so much rule. Premier League will be under pressure from Liverpool, United, Arsenal etc... to come down hard on them.

Newcastle don't need to pay anyone £400k/week. Young players like Sven Botman are probably on £20k/week at Lille at most.

The other clubs interested in him are CL level German or Italian clubs who might give him 50-75k.

It's amazing how City fans of all people are so easily swallowing the media narrative around Newcastle, it's literally the same articles from 2008-2010 copy and pasted.

It will take them 5 Years to get to the top maybe 6 if they get relegated.

They don't have the facilities right now

I think £400k/week is a stretch but I wouldn't be shocked to see them sign players on £200k/week - £300k/week.

They're also being linked with players like Ramsey whose wages are astronomical (€400k/week) and I expect any Premier League player they sign will ask for wages higher than Trippier too.

I don't think it's unreasonable that a young promising talent who chooses to setback their career a few years asks for wage compensation to make up for it. Not on about Botman in this scenario but a young player from the Premier League say.

Ramsey earns £160k week at Juventus.

the 400k figure included his signing fee spread across the contract.

And again, why would they pay him that much? This is a player looking to rejuvenate his career, with 6 months left on his contract and no one likely to sign him afterwards because he never plays. I’m sure he would bite their hand off for £100k week on a 3 year deal.

Everyone has seen what happened at City, players will be queuing up to be their Bellamy or De Jong or Given.

First big signing and they have him cover the Newcastle badge for the photo, bit of a head in hands moment.

Our first big signing said he couldn’t turn down such a great proposal from Chelsea at his unveiling to be fair, theirs has gone better than that.

To be fair we did have that tit Sulaiman Al Fahim saying thats what we were going to do at the time, but take your point…. ;)

One down ... How many to go?

They need some key signings this window to stay up, preferably ones that can form the backbone of a side for the next 3 years.

A striker is so so important for them too. I'd also suggest they could do worse than look at a dead ball specialist, they're in a position where free kicks and corners have to be seen as a chance.

Offering £40m for ward prowse may be a good move, and they absolutely have to see this January window not just as their chance to stay up, but as a window when the big boys are less likely to compete.
I think they are ok upfront with Wilson/Saint Maximan.

Behind that is awful, centre half’s especially!!
