I read an interesting article a few days ago that in many ways, sums up the tory mentality. The guy was writing about his mother. who had been tory all her life, she wasn't really engaged in politics and didn't take much interest in the shenanigans going on in Westminster, but voted for them because they were the traditional voice of decency, hard work and honesty.Am I the only one blatantly amazed that the Tories are still in power? This has to be the most corrupt Western European government I can ever remember. Where is people's intelligence? Where are their balls? If this was France they would be losing their shit whilst our population is as docile as it is ignorant.
From punting off the NHS, dodgy contracts, sleaze, mismanagement, consistently lying PM...its never ending. And we allow it to get worse and worse.
Seems the country is full of people who think that if they are doing OK then fuck everyone else. They knowingly turn a blind eye to what they voted in. Fuck the NHS, fuck the police, fuck education, welfare, compassion. As long as London is comfortable, that's what matters.
The sheer level of press control to me feels like we are entering an Orwellian era. Obviously the money from oil, American pharma and arms dealers is making its way nicely into their bank accounts.
With all that going on, I don't see how anyone could vote Tory. They are absolute scum. Surely your conscious kicks in at some point? Is money all that people really give a shit about now? All those WW2 soldiers that returned from hell and built the amazing NHS are having their legacy shat on by disconnected, selfish working class thinking they are big time. Funny how they are the first to complain however.
Yes, you could add the other parties hold those traits as well, but it was her belief and that's the way she had voted all her life. It was comfortable for her, and she had no reason to change her mind.
They are admirable qualities in any person, but the author then went on to explain her mother was disgusted by the current governments blatant lies that, even though she didn't take too much interest in politics, she could see how dishonest they are and was aghast at the lack of honesty and integrity, qualities she has lived by all her life and expected from others. Her ideals of civilised living have been trashed by the current government.
The tories don't respect those values, and it's plain for all to see. There is nothing honest about them, nothing at all, and I think the penny is starting to drop with their core voters. The last couple of by-election results have reflected the revulsion many people feel about being taken for fools and lied to. They have dug a hole for themselves that is so deep it's difficult to see how they can scramble their way out of it.
They aren't going to publish an economic plan because that would expose the folly of leaving the EU, they don't care about Northern Ireland because that will expose the stupidity of the rest of the UK leaving the single market and the customs union, and they lied their way into power with 'level up' bullshit for the north and telling us WTO rules were an acceptable alternative, energy cost's would come down, clothing cost's would come down, the price of food would come down, we would strike a trade deal with the USA, a trade deal with the EU would be the easiest trade deal in history, and the world would be knocking on our door to strike deals with us.
Bullshit, Bullshit and more Bullshit.
Like I said, there is not one word of truth coming from the mouths of any tory politician at the moment, but I'll go back to that journalist writing about his mother, the lifelong tory party voter.
'I like Keir Starmer. He comes across as honest. I'll be voting for him at the next election'.
Old people with old values, a bit like me.
