His new reps are not happy with the story and dispute the claims.

There is no change.
Given the current economic crisis around the world I imagine his dreams of playing for Madrid or Barca might remain as just those. I can't imagine either of those clubs would pay him £350k per week plus a fat signing on fee even if he ran his contract down. Needs to get in the real world and stay where he is for the time being.

Agreed, which he can do by running down his deal for another 18 months and leaving for free.

He might as well hedge his bets on £300k a week and see how the land lays.

Not good for City, but I would rather he did that and we avoided being wedded to another five years on even greater wages.

It will have been eight years service by then and more than recouped the transfer fee.

i wonder then if sterling wants to move to spain he would be tempted by A Madrid instead of Real or Barca? Then maybe try and do a deal including Felix?

We don't want Felix and Sterling doesn't want Atletico. The only realistic financial prospect of a move anywhere this summer, certainly that I can see, would be PSG replacing Mbappe.

How disappointing.

Sterling has a World Cup year coming up, unless one of three clubs in Madrid, Barca or Paris come calling, he won't be leaving this summer.

He has no need to sign a new deal with City, he holds all the cards.

He can continue to be paid £300k a week for another 18 months and challenge for all the top trophies.

Potentially remaining in England with another club then also opens up for him if he runs his deal down.

Raheem signs a new deal at City before June, he's decided there's worse places to be.

Any idea how Pep is viewing it? Is retaining Sterling one of his priorities or is he pragmatic about it?

I don't think anyone is kidding themselves, put it this way. When teams are winning it becomes less of a problem.

Pep can't really say anything as he is essentially in the same contractual countdown.

The only difference is Raheem has a monetary value to the Club.

Pep will pick him if he performs, simple as.

If Raheem doesn't perform, he is in no position to moan about a lack of starts and then he will have perhaps a decision to make.

Would the club let him run it down? or would they look to sell in the summer if he's not looking to sign an extension?

My thoughts are that you haven't seen much of Raphinha or Coman if you believe they would be an adequate replacement for the second-highest City goalscorer of the 21st Century.

For every successful Bundesliga import we see (Sané, Aubameyang, Gundogan and even the first two were only for a few years) there are countless who look amazing in Germany, come here and we quickly discover they're not up to it against PL defenders (Haller, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan, Sancho, Joelinton, Werner, arguably Havertz etc.)

Sterling is a proven Premier League goalscorer, one of the best of the last decade, and it's staggering how much we undervalue that as a fanbase.

Actually you would think differently if you would see more of Coman. His numbers might not be as high as some of the others - but the guy has a dribbling capability especially in tight spaces that you very seldom find - and he keeps the ball... - even with a low fullback he works fine on the right as he can keep the winger as well as the other teams fullback occupied. Coman still can approve with his end product and for sure has injury problems - but when he is fit he for sure is one of the five top wingers and dribblers in the world.

Compared with Bayern's wingers Sterling better can be compared to Gnabry - not Coman.

In all leagues City is only no. 20 in the number of successful dribblings per 90 minutes but no. 15 in the number of dribblings - and good dribbling is actually a quality that matches to Pep's system - but less with a speed dribbler than with a dribbler that can do it on tight spaces.

Sterling has 2 successful dribblings on 4.8 total dribblings (41 %) - Coman (and Sane) have about 57% (Bundesliga) - in the CL it is even higher for them (Sterling's data is about the same)

City have lost the window to dictate it unless they are now prepared to take a ridiculously low fee this summer, that buyer is from abroad and they can afford both the fee and his wages.

Sterling need but wait 12 more months and he can pocket a £20m signing fee and still get improved wages, and choose if he wishes to remain in England.

Same situation as Sane.

With Bayern extending Coman and Madrid getting Mbappe, the only team who I can see being able to afford him internationally would be PSG- which honestly would make sense in regards to replacing Mbappe. If I had to guess, I think we'll end up getting something done but who knows, really. Wait and see.
