And yet he fucked about with it in the Champions League final, I still can't believe he did that.

This is the biggest myth at City, that Pep "fucked about" and cost us the CL. Nobody talks about how he "fucked about" by playing a counter attacking 4-4-2 in the semi to beat PSG, which we'd never played before or since under him. He's constantly tweaking, and ehen his tactical changes produce amazing results, which is 9/10 times, it doesn't get commented on. But the myth has to be peddled that he 'tinkers' in the CL only.

I usually get bored going to football forums nowadays but have to log in to like your comment. It's just unbelievable that we still have to explain this to other people, especially our own fans who have watched our team play for years.

I would like this post twice if I could. I hate “Pep overthinks the champions league” even more.

If we’d lost against Chelsea at the weekend the accusation would have been that he “overthought” it by playing stones instead of Dias. But we win, Stones is brimming with confidence and Dias desperate to get back in the team.

nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes or what Pep is thinking. He is brilliant because most of the time it works. Unfortunalty we have been desperately unlucky in the champions league, not because he “overthinks” it or is some kind of tinker man.

That game was lost because of Werner's dummy run and Havertz being left unmarked by Zinny for a split second and our forwards not converting their chances, definitely not because 'Pep fucked about' as you are saying.

we lost the CL because KDB literally broke his face in the first half. Our strategy against teams like chelsea is to wear them down in the first half and then break open the crack in the second half. We couldnt do that with KDB being out.

It was in the second half

I agree with all you say apart from the "we have been desperately unlucky" part.

Against Lyon we were terrible, yes Sterling missed an open goal but that should not distract from a poor performance.

Last year in the Chelsea final, we did not turn up, our team played unrecognisably from the team that won the title, we were not unlucky in any way, we were well beaten on the night.

Some of our players choking & going missing in the CL final didn't help us
Big players too, I remember seeing Gundog coming out of the tunnel, I knew then we wouldn't win, because he is a seasoned pro who has been on the losing side before in that comp, he all but shouted Mummy.
If the Mahrez shot had gone in at the death though I think we would of won it.
I hate a non champion getting to the final and winning (atm) ;-), flukey cnuts, nowhere near our level for years.

Thank you for this post.

He is the best manager in the world.

True but sadly we as a team did not turn up in that final, that was what made it so disappointing.
I kept telling some Brazilian fans close to me that the usual route for all teams is to lose their first final before winning one. I think the last time a team won on their first final was in the 90s. So I was expecting it and there was nervousness involved clearly. Weirdly, I think we would have beaten Madrid though

Since Pep arrived his preparation for big games / finals has been incredible, which made the performance even more strange and as others have pointed out, our senior players looked nervous, again which was incredible when you have seen the games and performances they have been involved in for club and country.

Nerves and expectation get to even the greats.
