OK fair, I guess it does happen just a little odd. I'd be quite happy with another Tevez or Lautaro!
We generally have a good record of getting solid deals from South America. Aside maybe a couple la Liga clubs, I reckon our scouting network is the deepest there and hence we're respected/get preference in certain moves.
 
I've watched quite a few matches in the Argentina league because my neighbor is a Boca Junior fan. Alvarez is really good. He can finish, press and dribble. Plays better in bigger games (derbies).

Some info from when I've watched him:

Positive:
Versatility: Gallardo uses many formations. Alvarez can lead the line, has played as a deep lying forward, right wing and as right sided striker in 2 striker system.
Finishing: Is right footed but can finish well with the left.
Press: You cant play for Gallardo if you don't contribute defensively. Presses and tracks back.

Weakness:
Close quarter control
Hold up play / back to goal
