Running thread

Afternoon All

I hope everyone's training is going well, I am training for the Manchester marathon again to raise money for Cancer Research. Last October I did it in 4.19, was a bit a dissapointed I didn't get under 4 but targetting a sub 4.

Sadly yesterday evening whilst running in Sale I was hounded by a group of lads in a car who called me a faggott.
It upset me quite a lot but I'll be back out tomorrow with my running shoes on and I'll be at the game tonight.
Hope getting back out there mate, good luck on your run for great cause. I've recently posted in prostate cancer thread showing a few symptoms so got GP appointment coming up soon. Last week I decided to run my London Parks HM in aid of Prostate cancer. Don't worry about the idiots mate, think of good work you're doing compared to their sad little lives

Thanks mate, it just wasn't very pleasant to be honest.
I'm a straight bloke but found their language obscene and very homophobic. It could have offended and upset a lot more if the person instead of me was gay/bi that's what upset me more. The term faggot is very nasty, sadly it's not the first time i've been called it.
But like you say there the losers not me, I'll put my running shoes on again tonight and carry on.
Cheers

Looking for some advice on energy gels/bars/drinks for long runs.

What do people find to be the best options? I know it's down to the individual and trial and error, and have done the SiS gels before - but not sure I've found them to give me much of a boost. Maybe I just need to up the dosage!

Maybe have a look at saltstick fast chews, Ive started using them in the past week or so and the difference is very noticeable

I have started on the gels in last 3 runs. At moment just testing to see if stomach is ok with them so only taking last mile or so making sure not too far from home.

Will give those a go. Granted I am a special case, but I struggle to open the SiS gels and end up having to bite them to open them and spilling some over my hands which is a faff when I am trying to keep moving! The fact they don't need to be taken with water is good but you need about 3 an hour.

Those chews look much easier and a bit of water to wash then down is easy even for me! Done all of my long runs without fuel so far which I have read can be a benefit on occasion but then tips over into a negative and can cause muscle damage etc so fueling for my remaining ones.

16 tomorrow, 18 in a couple of weeks and then 20 and I am "ready" to go!

OTE Super Gels by a country mile. Double the calories of most gels and easy on the stomach.

Had a friend up this weekend I'd not seen in a year.
Had a few beers on Friday evening (inevitably) and both did the Park Run Saturday morning...very much worse for wear.
Real struggle but absolutely pleased I did it and felt better....can't say the same for today.

Yes mate, I'm doing it. 7 weeks to go!
Nice one, I did 4.19 in October, was my first one.
I started off really well but I got to Brooklands at mile 21 and hit the bloody wall!
Gutted as I wanted sub 4. I'm doing the Blackpool half on Sunday.

That's still a great time for your first effort, and you've kept the running up and know the course so an opportunity to push for sub 4hrs this time around.

I've got a sub 4 as an ambition, but my last marathon was 6 years ago and off the back of injury disrupted training (4hrs35). Whilst I've trained a lot better this time around I still haven't put in the solid year of high mileage which I probably needed to, so I think I might be found out around the 20 mile mark as well. Up to 16 miles in training now, an 18 mile in a couple of weeks followed by a half marathon I'll use as a tempo run and then a 20 miler before the taper.

We shall see. If I miss out on the 4hr mark I'll just have to try again and not wait 6 years this time!
