Russian invasion of Ukraine

Have they tried turning it off and on again?

A few years ago I was grounded for about 3 hours on a flight to Hawaii with several issues that prevented us taking off. They had tried multiple things but nothing was working. After conferring with some engineering/tech team in San Fran, the pilot announced to us all..."Well, like we all do with our home computers, we're going to reboot the plane and see if that fixes everything." Well, it did....but fuck me I was nervous on takeoff lol.

Is anyone else getting weird feeling flashbacks to March 2020 when Covid was first hitting us? I mean in terms of constantly being drawn to the TV news channels and social media and watching with a strange constant knot in your stomach. That kind of helpless upsetting feeling. Probably doesn't help that my school is on half-term this week so I'm at home with nothing to distract me but it just has all the same hallmarks of how I felt back then
It's almost exactly the same Dan. Even down to the fact that a couple of weeks ago I was making light-hearted quips to friends about this situation before realising it's much too serious for that - mirroring the same feelings for covid

Its such a shitty situation right now and who knows where this madness stops. If anyone can do anything right now, it's probably China but I doubt they are going to condemn this.

A message from prominent Russian writers, journalists, artists, directors, publishers and a Noble Prize winner:

There appears to be more and more backlash from the Russian public.

Boom. this is the best chance of ending this war.

Putin won't want to be fighting Europe and his own people

Belarus better get sanctioned into the stone age as well letting the Russians stage invasions from their lands. Making the ground Ukraine had to defend that much larger.

Following the invasion this morning:

  • Oil prices have surged to over $100 a barrel
  • Wholesale gas prices increased 33% overnight
  • UK's stock market plunged 2.7% at opening

I am just truly shocked they actually invaded. It's irrational.

Russia has spent years destabilizing and fracturing the west, quite successfully. They've already got their warm water port.

Now, suddenly, they've made themselves almost universally the bad guys and reunited the west against them. Their own people are against this. Their economy will be fucked even with China's backing, if they have it. What do they have to gain? Seriously, what am I missing?

A despot.

can only think Russia attacked before Ukraine joins Nato, which means it would be a different ball game altogether if they tried taking Ukraine

Is it possible that Putin could have underestimated the response to this globally? Ukrainians fighting back, well supported, reports of mass protests within Russia, strong sanctions, widespread condemnation from global leaders, 150 Russian officials signing a public letter condemning the war, young Russian soldiers being captured and dying in a war that Russian the public simply doesn't want, global sports stars coming out against it, the hacking and so on, the mass dropping and separation of huge firms from their Russian ties, Champions League final loss etc...some of it seems trivial, yes, but at what point does it all add up to become his own potential downfall? And it's only just getting started too. Maybe im just being naive here.
or maybe its propaganda , that video of the father putting his children on the bus is a mock up, the world is full of bullshit ,i don't believe anything nowaday
