Russian invasion of Ukraine

Let’s get real, NATO is the USA, NATO without the US is pointless.

The USA provide protection to anyone who signs up, as long as they can use your land for their bases.

It’s a pity Russia never signed up to NATO, I actually thought that there were may other countries that were members, it’s mostly US and European states

It’s something I’ve read on twitter mate so I can’t 100% verify it but if it’s true and business is taking a stance in shunning Russia then we’ll done.

This could also be a follow on from sanctions already mentioned re tech, semi conductors and chips etc.
The Chinese will supply them with everything, and the Russians will buy it with the money they are still getting from selling their gas and oil to the west. The sanctions are pitiful but understandably so.

These lists mean absolutely nothing.

The west hasn’t fallen behind Russia in military spending at all.

The United States spends $770 Billion per year on the military to Russia’s $60.

They outspend them 10-to-1 for decades.

Nato as a whole spend well over $1 TRILLION on the military every year compared to Russias $60Bn.

BBC 5Live had a general on yesterday who said NATOs military is 10 to 15 times stronger than Russias and not just in size but it’s far more advanced technically.
Pretty much spot on here, although let me add a couple of comments

The issue NATO has is politically all pulling in the same direction(if Russia invaded Turkey are Greece coming to their aid? And indeed if they did what are the odds that the Greeks and the Turks would start fighting!!). Further to that is Russia invades one of the Baltic States for example it's going to be all over before we can deploy with force, will we all go to war for a battle that's already lost?

The figure for the US is also a little deceptive(is historically UK spending is), Blue Water Navies are prohibitively expensive and the US stations a significant number of units outside the US which again adds to the overall cost, especially when you consider that the Russians have hardly any units outside Russia and even fewer outside Europe and the Russian Far East.

That was always going to happen, the man is a fucking clown and a dangerous one at that.
I think it shows proof, if needed, that America hasn’t dealt with this clown yet and he needs dealing with.
He will raise his orange head above the parapet again and further divide and pollute American democracy, what’s left of it.

How much longer do we have to keep our trousers down for these cunts??

Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, has warned both Finland and Sweden that they will face “detrimental military and political consequences” if they attempt to join Nato.

Zakharova was speaking at a press conference in Moscow earlier this afternoon, where she warned that the Nato accession of either Finland or Sweden would spark a serious response from Moscow.

We regard the Finnish government’s commitment to a military non-alignment policy as an important factor in ensuring security and stability in northern Europe.

Whilst I agree in principle, I'd say a couple of things:

1. Paid for how exactly? and
2. The west as a whole has fallen SO far behind Russia in terms of conventional (i.e. non-nuclear) forces, it is beyond a joke. It would take vastly more than simply topping up our forces a bit - it would take years and years of huge spending increases to get anywhere close, in so doing, crippling our economies. I mean, just look at this. The UK (with 227) doesn't even get on the list. France and Germany are not much better and not on the list either.

How on earth do we threaten Russia when we have 227 tanks?

Pretty sure Johnson and Elwood had an argument about exactly that a few months ago

I know you talk nonsense ;-)

Life is luxurious in North Korea and in Russia with their massive defence spending of course.

Are you Arron Banks?

Are you confusing government public finances have to do with the economy?

Why isn't the USA bankrupt with the vast military spending?

New jobs in engineering and technology, hardly low paid are they?

I won’t be shedding any tears either but it’s still a human tragedy unfolding here for nothing other than one man’s ego.
Without a doubt, i obviously wish this had never happened but i just can't stop being fcuking angry about this.
I have no idea what we in the west can do, i have no idea if there is anything at all our leaders can realistically do but fuck me, we can't even agree on sanctions & that just saddens & angers the fuck out of me.
Think conceding a last minute winner against Utd or Liverpool for them to win the league X a thousand, my anger over this surprises me & i do apologise if i'm ranting

Sadly the vast majority will be shit scared kids, barely trained and lied to like the rest of Russian society and their families will be seeing them brought home in body bags and for what?

Putin is one evil ****!
Unfortunately most of us knew he was an evil **** since Litvinenko ,Syria. MH 17, Novochok ,Georgia, Crimea .Obama, and other western leaders chose to treat him as a distraction to their own internal issues.
