Very disappointing. Yes should have been unanimous, Russia shouldn't even have got a vote.

Abstaining is not disappointing, china and india would normally have voted against the motion, as I said above governments can't only think of this conflict in their own national interests, the vote was never getting through anyway as russia would veto.

The UN as it stands is a complete waste of space, and has been for decades.

I've been watching flightradar24 this evening, numerous interesting flights into Poland close to the Ukraine border from NATO member air forces, including ours.

There is no mechanism for removing one of the 5 permanent members of the security council.

We could be in the middle of WW3, Russia vs the world and they’d still be vetoing stuff…

I assume the idea is that the UN is a permanently open line of communication and diplomacy but it does seem stupid.

Abstaining is better than voting against, governments have other issues to think about as well as Ukraine, so they choose to say nothing, UK has done it plenty in the past.

Different argument to abstaining at the UN.

The UN is utterly pointless if a vote involves one of the 5 SC members.

India and UAE have ties in russia, they may hate what they are doing in Ukraine, but self interest means they can't vote in favour, which is why there is an "abstain" option, check the history of votes, you'll find the UK has done this (in its own self interest).

Bottom line the UN is generally pointless, and achieves mostly nothing.
