Russian invasion of Ukraine

Then, let’s all bow at his feet and hope we don’t fall foul of his ire, shall we?
I ain't saying that am i?
All I've said is he's telling everyone to stay out of it.
No fucker wants to bow down to him.
I have a cousin who's been fighting in Avdiivka since 2015 against Russian backed troops.
They certainly ain't bowing down.

I blame Donald trump

I know you’re being sarcastic but people need to wake up to the fact that Trump was financed by Russia, The DNC and RNC were both hacked by Russia, the NRA was bankrolled by Russia to make it a divisive issue in US politics. The leave campaign was bankrolled by Russia, the conservatives.

Russia have been preparing this for 10 years. They’ve been attacking our democracies and hitting us with so much misinformation to prepare for this and hamper the world’s response to this “restore the Russian Empire” campaign that there’s still posters on here defending Putin and blaming NATO.

There’s posters on this forum parroting Russian talking points when they talk about “Imperialist NATO” without even realising they’ve been propagandised.

Taking Putin at his word?

Since 2007, Putin has been “dismantling the structures designed to keep peace in post-Cold War Europe. Russia formally announced in July 2007 that it would no longer adhere to the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty. It continued to reject the principle of host-nation consent for its troop presence in Georgia and Moldova, and began ignoring Vienna Convention limits on troop concentrations, exercises and transparency.

In 2008, Russia invaded Georgia, trading its peacekeepers in the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for regular military personnel, and driving tanks toward the capital, Tbilisi. Six years later, Russian operatives took over Crimea and rapidly orchestrated its illegal annexation by Russia. Russia followed up with attacks in eastern Ukraine … Later, Russia violated the INF Treaty and began to deny overflights requested under the Open Skies Treaty.”

They’ve been flaunting and breaking the rules for years. Putin used to turn up to conventions and in the last decade has stopped coming. He has no interest whatsoever in what the West or NATO says or wants or would like to keep peace. He’s got his aims and he’s going to go through with them.
I think you misunderstood. I’m not saying to trust him. I’m suggesting that Ukraine calls his bluff. Again, how does Ukraine benefit from continuing down its current path? At best, it survives on a fraction of its territory, weaker both economically and militarily, and remains continuously at the threat of further Russian invasion. That may still happen even if it agrees not to join NATO, but at least then it would prove to the world that the war is a territorial grab. And, if there is even the smallest chance that it avoids a bloody conflict, surely Ukraine should take that chance.

Exactly.
Putin has been at it for 15 years including invasions of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine by proxies. He’s shot down an airliner with minimal consequences. He’s launched an information war against the US and U.K. which is likely to have helped enable the election of Trump and maybe swung our EU vote for Brexit. He’s launched a biological attack on the U.K. that killed a U.K. citizen. In the meantime he’s hosted the Winter Olympics and the World Cup. It’s absolutely no surprise to anyone that takes notice that he’s taken this next step. Acceding to any bullshit Russian demands will simply encourage him to go further. If he succeeds in his aims without significant consequence, Georgia and Moldova will be next and we can only hope that the NATO alliance stands firm to prevent him attacking the Baltic states or Poland. It’s now clear where Trump’s disdain for NATO originated. Thank fuck he’s not still in charge in the US. It’s about time some people woke up to what is happening.
