Russian invasion of Ukraine

Humbled to tears by the exceptional resolve being shown by all Ukrainians during this crisis and hope to god those brave brave people can hold out long enough to cause putins downfall.

Hope to god we and other countries are doing everything they can to help, short of sending troops in.

The longer it goes on the more I can envisage the scales tipping against putin and him having to stand down or be overthrown. There must be people around him whispering between themselves behind his back.

He has surely started off down a road to his own ruin, a consequence of having no political opponents as they have all been "removed" and he has become renegade.

Just hope he doesnt take us all with him.

They are so wedded to Brexit and keeping out forriners they are stuck and scared that to move the line will cost them red wall support - the mad thing is they cannot see that all the other stuff they have done and are doing is costing them dearly - blinkered and doctrinal with almost no political nowse

Good post.

They all thought they'd have Kyiv won by now, from what we can gather, their military are taking a bit of a battering on the way too, so I suspect their generals won't want to be guilty if the losses are big. They don't even seem to have control of the air space yet, which is a big surprise.

There will eventually be a backlash, and they'll get support from others in the elite, who have their own ambitions to be the leader.
 
Kyiv about to be annihilated apparently anytime now from Russian jets seen some tweets from verified accounts stating Russia about to got them with everything they have.

They'll destroy brick but not Ukrainian spirit. They'll keep fighting amongst the rubble.

Let's see what the next week brings. The govts 'broad brush' immigration policy is for another thread really. I'd be surprised/disappointed if there is not at least a temporary exemption put in place for Ukrainians.

I wonder how easy it is to change the rules on the Visa? I assume it’s more complicated than just saying “we sympathise with you, come on in”?

Also where would they go? Some would have families to stay with but others wouldn’t. Do we have a plan on where we would put those without families already here? I know there are hotels housing Afghans who’ve come over recently, do we have more places like that to take them in?

I know it’s an emotive situation and we’d ideally want to open the door to them coming over, but is that too simplistic a way of thinking about things?
