Russian invasion of Ukraine

This nuclear threat is going to allow Putin to invade every non-NATO, non-EU country that he wants.

It's the bully storming around the playground approach.

I understand the fallout of direct involvement but more needs to be done to support Ukraine. They need more planes, more weapons, more of everything.
To what end? Seriously.

I don't make posts like this to be deliberately argumentative. I just really wonder if people have thought it through. Before advocating a course of actions, surely it's sensible to consider what it is you want to achieve, how realistic that is and to have a plan which covers the bases?

Just throwing more arms at Ukraine and hoping it all goes away seems to me like a pretty half-baked idea, and certainly not a coherent strategy.

I mean seriously, where is Biden in all of this, other that hollow words about him being a very naughty boy. Seems the west is prepared to fight until the very last Ukrainian death.

Putin has to be careful here
He can keep pushing and making threats but ultimately if he instigates a full scale war with the west he will lose and lose big time
The west doesn’t want to engage, but if and when forced to they will destroy him
He won't because he wants Ukraine and has invaded before they had a chance to join NATO. The fuckface wouldn't be doing it if they were in. He'd never realise his dream if they did so he's taken the opportunity whilst they are unprotected.

In a few years of months if he's successful it will be onto Georgia or somewhere else. He's not finished just yet

Anyone backing Putin & Russia, making excuses for them or saying they've got a point, is a massive ****
It's people like you that are spouting abuse on FB at me - all because I've got a Russian flag as a profile pic and have suggested we support Putin and Nicholai Sturgeon.

It's not propaganda that 2,000 people were arrested for protesting, the biggest since Navalny was arrested and 20,000 people were arrested and beaten.

It's not propaganda that Russia has taken down twitter and Facebook to stop people seeing what's going on.

It's not propaganda that they've closed down the only Russian TV station that aired negative opinions of the government.

It's not propaganda that dozens of high profile Russian celebrities have spoken out against the war.

Putin is not doing these things because he has universal support for his invasion. A crackdown on free press and media comes when things are getting unruly and you need to stop the damage.
So right. Nor is it propaganda that Putin has killed or imprisoned opponents, killed journalists, sent executioners to the UK to hunt down his opponents and so much more.

I've read opinions that it's simply vanity at stake. Putin's desire for Russia to be relevant again, to be feared and admired. Seems pathetic but from what I read he took the breaking up of the USSR quite badly. Probably wants that legacy of being the guy who attempted to restore it

And that’s exactly why I’m not concerned about a nuclear Holocaust

I hope I'm very wrong but the chances of us or the USA or anyone stepping in are slim to none. We will let Putin take Ukraine because they don't want a fight. Ukraine is gone sadly imo.

I am not up to speed on this, but aren't the EU sanctions applied at an EU level? You'd imagine it was harder to get agreement upon sanctions across 27 nations as opposed to just 1, and in that context I do think our (UK) response is so far sub-par.
Plus we've got more Russian oligarchs in London than any other European city and possibly as many as all other EU countries put together due to the reputation of London being a no questions asked money laundering centre for people with spare billions.

Video on that NEXTA new channel on Twitter. Shows a looter cling filmed to a lamp post, arse out and being whipped with a belt - for looting.

Not sure how I feel about that.

To the end of giving Ukraine a chance of staying in control of their air space initially.

If we're too worried about the fallout of direct involvement by calling a no-fly zone, then we have to give the Ukrainians the tools to try and do it themselves.
