Russian invasion of Ukraine

Any foreign aid to these countries from us should be immediately stopped, if you ain’t with us you’re against us, fuck em
Do not think UK provided any aid, just colonized and looted, unless you mean the token pittance given after looting to make oneself feel good.
Maybe should tell them will come and colonize you again that will set them right.

I think NATO should of been more prepared for this. Nato forces should of been considerably enlarged in the Baltics, Poland, and other NATO countries bordering Ukraine, and actually covertly in Ukraine. Ukraine made many preparations for an invasion and thats why they have been incredible defending their country.
If Nato had of enlarged their presence in Nato countries bordering Ukraine and Russia Putin would of thought twice about invading Ukraine, NATO did hardly anything, where are the Nato forces including the Americans?
If Nato had of been fully prepared and ready would the decision to invade Ukraine by Putin been made, I doubt it.
If he had still made the decision to invade Nato would of been ready, and could of raced to kiev securing the capital, and securing two thirds of Ukraine. This could of been done without Nato firing a shot in anger and completely wrong footing Putin. It just seems to me we have not reacted to an obvious and building threat from Putin when a show of strength and support for Ukraine would of stopped him in his tracks.
Just my thoughts

If it was me I’d withdraw from Donbass and Luhansk and the nearby southern parts dominated by ethnic Russians and hold the line there
Easier to defend, possibly, but the risk of losing far too much territory and the potential then of becoming landlocked.

Agreed, I noticed them and thought WTF???
Watching (on Al Jazeera) their foreign minister addressing some politicians, somewhere today, saying Africans were being poorly treated at the borders. Similar mentioned from a Pakistani lady at a border crossing. It was difficult to see if she was being disingenuous but she certainly didn't look like she'd had a harrowing journey.
EU chap saying it was all Russian disinformation...
I'm guessing that there's most likely something more going on behind the scenes after looking at that way both of these nations voted.

Unsure if previously posted, feeling sad reading this as up to now the general picture has been of Ukraine defiance seeming to prevail.

Kherson mayor appears to suggest city has fallen

The mayor of Kherson has appeared to suggest that the southern Ukrainian city has fallen to Russian forces.
In a message posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Igor Kolykhaev wrote that "there were armed visitors in the city council today" and that he had told the troops "we don't have Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city, only civilians and people who want to LIVE here!".
Kolykhaev wrote that Moscow's forces have imposed a curfew from 20:00 to 06:00 local time (22:00 - 08:00 GMT), and said cars with food, medicines and some other supplies will be allowed to enter the city.
He added that cars within the city must drive at "minimum" speed and pedestrians are banned from moving in groups of more than two people.
"So far this is how it is. Ukrainian flag above us. And to keep it the same, these requirements must be met. I have nothing else to offer yet", Kolykhaev said.
The BBC cannot independently verify this statement and earlier today US defence officials said that Kherson "remains very much a contested city".

All this sounds like a plan. The Ukraine isn’t in NATO though.

I think that you might get a call with the offer of being NATO new strategic military expert. You're wasted on here

NATO is a defensive organisation, not an invasive one. NATO poses no threat to Russia. Members join through cohesion not coercion. There was little NATO could do to prevent this situation. Once Ukraine felt it necessary to join NATO for its own protection, Russia acted.

Yes, had Ukraine been a member of NATO Russia would never have attacked, but as shown, once Ukraine showed interest in becoming a member, Russia invaded to prevent their membership becoming a factor. Ukraine has few political allies and are effectively (aside from aid and munitions being donated) on their own. Once a ceasefire has been announced, and Ukraine accepted into NATO, Russia will see it as game over and back off as a fight against NATO (especially without Chinese support) is a fight they know they cannot win, nukes or no nukes.

Martial law apparently being rolled out across Russia in the coming days. Sounds like they want to cut off people dissenting against the ‘special military operation’.

Did someone not post earlier that no one can get any money out the banks there? If that happenes and people can't buy anything, things could go to shit quickly.

I guess we all suspected this anyhow as the CIA called it whilst the games were on - as If 2 years of bullshitting about covid wasn’t enough

I understand your frustration and concern but NATO has no mandate, for such an undertaking. It's a defence organisation, not a pro active fire fighting force

I have been thinking back to another crisis not to long ago and what happened there. A certain Arab country invaded another Arab country. Certain western countries didn’t like it so got together and threw out that Arab country. Will we do the same here or is this different??
