She claims she pays her taxes. Not sure why anyone would get animated by someone not paying UK tax on money earned outside of the UK. Does she not - rightly - pay Indian tax on it - given that’s where it is earned?

The left crack me up on this - demand that folk/companies that earn revenue in UK pay their taxes here, and now demand that people who earn their revenue outside of the UK should now not pay the taxes of that country and instead pay taxes here. I think it’s called having your cake and eat it. She is living in the downing street flat and is married to the chancellor of the exchequer, who decides the tax rules for the whole of the UK, tax that he's recently put up for 90% of the working population.

If his family wants to take advantage of what is a tax loophole and offshore accounts, then he has to give up his ambitions of holding 1 of the 4 great offices of state. This is even more highlighted during a cost of living increase.

I wouldn't describe myself as left wing in anyway shape or form.


Also this is pretty much guaranteed to be Boris's team getting revenge on Cummings/Sunak and nuking any of his leadership ambitions.

MB that is not the point. She lives here, married to the Chancellor. She has investments in Indian which she allegedly pays tax on. Being an Non Dom gives her the opportunity to stash money in other tax havens like the British Virgin Islands etc and thus not pay UK tax on it. You or I do not have that opportunity and have to pay tax on ALL our income no matter where it is earned. This is all about fairness not about left wing politics.

The idea is that it allows foreign investors / visitors to come here without overly onerous tax treatment. The rules are complex but for most people to qualify you have to live here for less than 90 days a year.

How on earth can the wife of a long-standing MP now chancellor who lives in a flat in downing street qualify as 'non dom'. Everything wrong with uk tax law is summed up in this case.

It may well be legit - but it will be legit because of loopholes built into the system and friends in the right places ensuring the rules are applied in a way that benefits the rich and powerful.

I believe thats for 15 years - after which you can pay £30k pa to maintain non-dom status and not pay UK tax on foreign earnings - there is only one reason to pay that £30k
