Left Back

Who should we sign at left back?

We buy a top level left back then what do we do with Walker/ Cancelo? Walker is needed for speed at the back but Cancelo creates so much as well, neither would be happy keep rotating I think. Like others have said get a decent right back to understudy Walker and leave the left back to Cancelo, Ake and Zinny.

Think we need 3 top level full backs. Its great we have cancelo who is so comfortable as a right footer on the left but would go for a recognised left back/footer personally

I understand that line of thought, he’s been fantastic at LB.
However, I’d love to see him get a run of games at RB because that’s the position where he earned his reputation / the position we bought him for, and it might well be the case that he’s even better at RB than LB . . . . . and wouldn’t that be something eh?

I think it'll come down to combinations of who is the wide player. Mahrez and Cancelo both coming inside with Kev clutters the right half space.

Cancelo inside, and Foden wide left seems to have a much nicer balance and the LCM doesnt really get into the same left half space Kev does/would.

One who sits wide and one who drifts inside would prob be my preference.

You could see the improvement in our football yesterday the moment Zinchenko came on. Ake just isn't confident enough on the ball to play the passes that we need in that position. Sure, he's fine with the defending and aerial contests, but we need to be able to play the full width of the park, especially in the final third, and that's why we need a left-footed left-back who is comfortable driving forward; that will be even more apparent if we sign Haaland.

It's also important as we no longer have someone with Sane's skillset and Foden deserves to play in midfield next season. Sergio Gomez would be a sensible option as he'd adapt to the system more quickly having come through Barcelona. He's also better than Zinchenko/Cancello in attacking the outside in the final third and he presumably wouldn't cost a fortune. I don't think we should be necessarily looking for the complete left-back, ala Cancello/Walker on the right, rather someone who has the things we currently don't have and who can thus complement Zinchenko/Cancello/Ake.
