Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

Being the pessimistic fucker I am, as soon as Madrid equalised I knew typical city would strike again. Also those who say that phrase died are fucking stupid as well. Not surprised by it but fuming in the way we completely lost concentration within those 6 minutes, madness.
Three points from eighteen against Spurs, Saints and Palace, scoring just three goals. Typical City has never really died, it's just been resting.

I’m not interested in arguing the issue. I merely told you one reason KDB started…you know, other than he has been brilliant recently, of course!
No argument mate. I simply think that he's been running on empty for quite a while and could have been used better.
Pep has been overplaying him, just like Martinez does for Belgium. He has brilliant moments rather than brilliant games.
The lad runs himself into the ground within an hour and needs to be used sparingly.

All about opinions of course, I just think Pep could have done better.

The most shocking thing to me is how shocked people are.

What happened the other night was entirely predictable and expected.

I just laughed tbh.

i'm curious to what and at which point in time you are referring to?

do you mean you sat there at 0-0 and thought "we'll go ahead, be comfortable and then concede twice in injury time " predictable", or you thought something was going to go wrong even at 1-0 up with 89 on the clock or do you mean in general pre-match "City-itis will strike again tonight" sort of thing? i just wonder what you mean by 'entirely predictable'

Just it’s more likely than not that we’ll fuck up in Europe when the chips are down.

I have zero faith in this team or manager to succeed in Europe.

I’m not saying sack Pep etc - I hope he extends - but I’ve resigned myself to accepting that we’ll always fail (mostly in comedic fashion) in this competition.

Despite that we have been outstanding again this year and if we go on to hold on for the league I’d absolutely consider this another great season.
I trust Pep/Txiki/Ferran to do the business once again this summer in terms of getting the correct personnel in

ah ok, you mean a general attitude and approach sort of thing. it's telling i've had a number of comments from other fans that "you must hate that competition by now" and "not another fuck up in europe" and so on. It's becoming obvious to others it seems. Personally i thought we were home and dry, and i suspect a lot of the players did too.

It’s like the final last year.

I, and many others knew the game was over as soon as the team sheet came out.

Just like the other night, knew it was over as soon as they started peppering our goal at 89 mins. I said to my mrs in front of the telly and to my mates on a group chat “we’re losing this game”.

You’re selling a third of the squad and picking the team with no insight. That’s what I’m saying
Wait to see what happens over the summer.

If it wasn't for the ridiculous wages we pay, we'd be offloading four or five without hesitation to the first bidders.

The squad needs a huge refresh.

As for insight... it doesn't seem to work too well for Pep when it really matters to him at the moment.

I said much the same to my lad when the commentators started to enthuse about an all English final between the two best teams in Europe, with about 5 minutes to go.

Our players were dreaming of Paris.

Still suffering from a sense of melancholy. And no, if we'd got through, I don't think we would have lost to Liverpool. We outplayed them for about half of the match at Anfield, and thoroughly at our gaff. Because we're the better team. The cup game was a match too far in too short a space of time, with a number of key players out — and despite that, we weren't at all far from levelling.
We would have beaten them in Paris. Real will not. We utterly outplayed Real for 180 minutes. Liverpool will, and there'll be no miraculous comebacks.
But anyway, the only thing I'm waiting for now is Sunday. That's the only way I can reset. A convincing victory. Anything else can barely be contemplated.

It’s quite possible that Mendy will be acquitted. But even if he is that wouldn’t necessarily mean the club had to take him back. It’s not disputed that he repeatedly breached his bail conditions, eventually being remanded in custody, thereby making himself unavailable to play. Irrespective of the eventual verdict, wouldn’t that justify the club releasing him?

A new LB clearly has to be a priority
But if you look at how we have conceded crucial goals, they often come down our right. Think Chelsea in CL final, United when they broke and Fat Shaw scored, Spurs this season at Etihad and Madrid 2nd at Etihad-all pretty similar.

100%.

As soon as Mcmanatwat says something, you know the opposite is guaranteed to happen.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda . It's history now mate.

A stuffy 1-0 will do on Sunday, and the same for the following three games.

Come on City!

We were saying ole every time we passed the ball in the 87th minute, Real were dead. They hadn’t had a decent attack for about 25 minutes, they were completely fucked. Still can’t believe we conceded two goals from two lumps into the box. Cancelo is a brain dead, if he sticks to his defensive line they don’t score there and we go through. That feeling of the Madrid fans going mad after the first will stay with me forever.

Until I saw what happened against Real Madrid, I thought the same as you. At full strength, we beat the dippers. Sadly, we aren't anywhere near full strength, yet they are. Without Walker - and it's pretty clear that in another 21 days, he probably isn't going to be fit enough to last 90 minutes, or to appear at all - and probably Stones/KDB for 90 minutes - there's little chance of us having been able to keep the dipper forwards quiet enough to stop them scoring a goal or 3.

Being under strength and losing another Champs League final to f'kin Liverpool doesn't bear thinking about.
