I don’t understand why we would make wholesale changes. It will mean another slow start to the season and it is nearly impossible to catch up with so few points dropped at the top.
Agreed. There do seem to be a few ‘baby & bathwater’ posts knocking about on here.

I believe a couple of academy women, who got first team debuts in 2021 (last season) left to play on scholarship at universities in America. Can't recall their names.
Was it Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle?? Joking….but Gareth Taylor has an abysmal record with foreign imports.
If City are serious about the WSL then he has to go….his decision to continue to play that utterly useless French goalkeeper Taieb was madness as was his decision to only use Raso as …. A substitute.
Under Taylor we have gone backwards. Nothing suggests that this will dramatically change next season.
The WSL has 3 clubs that are better than the rest and then the Rags. If Taylor remains in charge it will be “ 3 clubs and then City”.
He used up his “Get out of Jail Card“ this season. Get rid……

Just looked one of them up, Alicia Window. She went to America to play for The George Washington University. I can't think of the other who I believe did similar.

Keep hearing about who might go but nowt about who might arrive..
If we’re honest there are only a handful of City players that would be the nucleus of a team next season…
Ellie Roebuck, Alex Greenwood, Esme Morgan, Kiera Walsh, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly, Hayley Raso, Jess Park, Ruby Mace, Khiara Keating and Vicky Losada. Not sure about Blakstad or Shaw.
We need a significant number of arrivals……

The big issue for the Women's side is the coach - we have improved as players have returned but I’m still of the view that the job is beyond Gareth Taylor. We need to bring in an established coach - who can enable us to dominate this league. Despite all the departures we can assemble an excellent squad - there’s plenty of opportunity to sign good players in the women’s game but we need to galvanise them and give the squad / team a personality - a way of being - and Taylor simply isn’t able to do that.

I’m dismayed by the lack of young Academy players ready to step up ..or be given a chance. Apart from Jess Park, Esme Morgan, Kiera Keating and Ruby Mace…..who is there??
We have a really old squad - Bronze, Stokes, White - need to be moved on asap. Kennedy and Weir mainly poor.
Walsh just so negative but worth another season. Coombs - what is the point of this player?
Stanway - definitely move on.
Raso and Lasado - hardly seen them used to full potential.
Actually it would be easier just to get rid of Gareth Taylor.
What was it, 12 wins on the bounce after a rash of injuries early on. And, very unlucky to lose the Cup Final; yet the manager and most of the players have to go???

Big handful that....glad we're at least keeping some players:)

12 wins against very poor opposition. Not very unlucky to lose the Cup Final and a manager who has proved to be inadequate. Most of the players have underperformed this season.
Most of His decisions have been crap. If MCFC are serious about the womens game then he has to go..
Where is the evidence of Gareth Taylor actually IMPROVING this City squad??

I haven't said what I've said lightly, but unless Walsh starts being more progressive, she's holding the team back in tempo.

A '"lynchpin" is great if it moves forward and not just backwards and side-to-side! Any of our midfield can do that job and Greenwood, as it was pointed out the other day, is more progressive than Walsh!

That's nuts when you think about it!
Not sure we've been watching the same team if this is what you think she does, from where I sit she's the only one in midfield who can be trusted to be given the ball under pressure, in tight spaces, and keep it going rather than being dispossessed. Weir can do it on her day but hasn't been as consistent this season and likes to go for a dribble anyway which is more risky, Losada has the technique but not the agility, and Stanway falls over. The likes of Coombs etc aren't on the same level and it shows when they try to cover for her.

I'm not sure what more you're looking for in terms of moving forward when she's playing at the base of midfield distributing it to virtually everyone (backwards, sideways and forward) from deep and getting assists. It'd be like criticising Fernandinho for not making KDB-style passes a few years ago or pumping it forward, it's just not part of the job. If they wanted to replace her, they'd either need to change style massively or throw money at someone like Lia Waelti.

I don't entirely disagree with you about tempo being an issue fwiw, but that's that's a team issue, not a Walsh issue, - Alanna Kennedy passing it between herself and Alex Greenwood, the wingers refusing to hit crosses early, strikers holding up the ball rather than facing goal etc. That's where the coaching comes in though, we've never had a top coach and it shows.

Who would you keep??

Second half of the season, with all the players back, we were as good as anyone.

If all teams stayed injury free next season, I think we'd finish 2nd, behind Chelsea but ahead of Arsenal, and we'd push Chelsea all the way. That's with the side we have right now.

Yes we should want to improve and some changes need making but we don't need to rip it apart and start again.

With the salary cap and wages as they are, it's not always straightforward to get players to join. We could maybe get ambitious players from other lower WSL teams, but they would probably not be our level on day 1. Getting players to uproot from other countries and come here is obviously possible, but never a guarantee as the wages may be better where they are.

We are obviously attractive over here due to our setup. Chelsea and Arsenal have London. It's difficult to get players instantly who are better than White, Stokes, Weir and Walsh. Kennedy came in late notice and isn't perfect, but she's done a good job and we probably wouldn't have made 3rd this season without her.

So. Keep most of them. If Weir, Shaw, Bronze etc want to leave, then they'll leave and along with Stanway, it'll be a big enough job replacing them without having to change others also.

The only reason we finished 3rd was the very easy run in and that Manchester United had to beat Chelsea in their final match.
3 home games against Leicester City, Brighton and Birmingham City and a final away game at Reading = 4:0, 7:2, 6:0 and 4:0.
You could not have had a better set of matches.
If we’d had to play Chelsea we’d have lost…….oh we did in the FA Cup Final.
This ageing City squad is going to have to be dismantled and I really worry for next season. Champions League could be a disaster.

I think Jill Scott inferred that all the players hate Taylor or at least a sizeable do when she left, and given city seem loyal to Taylor no matter what some players might be considering options. Could be unrelated I guess but still

We won our last 10 league games. That's not "an easy run in", that's beating most of the league. Yes we lost to Chelsea on the FA Cup final, after extra time - but in amongst that run we also beat Chelsea 3-1 in the League Cup final.

We finished above United because we are way better than them. We are attempting to play a Pep-style of football while they are still bothered about being physical, getting stuck-in and winning personal battles. We're a decade ahead of them.

Bloody hell, sometimes I think I'm pessimistic, but I must have a rethink on that... :-D

Another argument is that we only finished 3rd because of the horrific injury list in the first 1/4 of the season, we might well have finished top had we had everyone available early doors.

You’re a strange bloke.

Chill. We were ravaged by injuries for most of the season. We’ve probably done will to get top 3 in the end.
