Political relations between UK-EU

The last time we could all travel to Europe and the rest of the world for holidays would have been summer/autumn 2019 - ie pre-Covid. I wonder what happened since then to change things?

So exactly where the hell does this all end?
I hear the divisions over brexit will be with us for decades, but is that really the case?
If the majoriyt of leave were over 55 then surely give it ten years and another referendum happened, I'm sure the vote would be much different.

That's of course if other factors are in play before then. The amount of lies this govt constantly churns our surely much clock with some of the leave voters by now?
And Brexit hasn't even started yet.

When you hear tory supporters saying, after the destruction 12 years of their rule has caused to so many people in so many ways, that 'Boris Johnson is doing a good job', I'm not holding my breath sanity will prevail.

Have you ever seen this?
it doesn’t get much publicity but it’s a gvmt dept rolling analysis on the economic impact of Brexit on the UK. Updated 26th May

I guarantee you will be horrified by the numbers. You ask where it ends? It possibly never does but it helps if people are informed with facts and not bluster and bollocks from our bulbous leader.

It doesn't. Well it doesn't end as long as we have a govt of this persuasion in office who "own" the press thus making sure they don't report on the damage being done. Eventually the elephant in the room will be too large to ignore and the political narrative will change as it will quite clearly make a party electorally viable when they address the disasters, apportion blame and show the evidence. Even then there will be blood letting as revenge will be sought on those who pushed the lies - political parties will want to oust those who did the damage - the new govt will seek to redress the balance in the media and so on. Seconds in a booth could have caused decades of problems for this country - put it this way I doubt I will live to see things back to "normal"

Highly depressing isn’t it.

As I mentioned, a few who voted for all this (& I include those who never voted Tory before in their lives) have been quiet for many, many months but suddenly galvanised once again once Sunak made the announcement the other day.

I had a rather heated debate with a friend over all this (never mentioning the B word) the other night. Think he’d been drinking given it got quite nasty: Starmer is a ‘woke ****’ apparently. That was because of a video from the Telegraph replaying his chat with Marr over the trans issue. I hope the CPS lies he fell for have at least been clarified.

Left me in a funny position. Rather than retaliate (I’ve known enough hate to know it gets you nowhere) I can only tell him the same. I actually feel he’s been radicalised - is that a little dramatic?

He’s a bright bloke with a v good job & has been a solid wingman to me during my dark years recently so it’s painful to hear all this. Kind of guy who eats out at all the low key, family ‘ethnic’ restaurants so I don’t fully get the right wing magnetism.

Pure ideology on his behalf over Brexit but it seems he’s doubling down.
I’m worried over his mental state.

Evidence based facts is always the way to go rather than fighting & entering that polarising environment & falling out.

No its not too dramatic - he has been radicalised and indoctrinated - can he define what woke means? I doubt it. Can he explain how an economy with record levels of employment record low levels of unemployed has 1.25m vacancies can be said to be performing well? I doubt it. All the evidence is there but they don't see it because they don't want to see it because they have been brainwashed not to believe it. I have family members in the same boat. Sad but there is no cure for it so far .

People who voted Brexit really don’t care if we are going to hell in a hand cart. As long as it got done. I live in ‘blueland’ Lincolnshire and they still think he is doing a grand job, especially now after the ‘bribe’. As long as the right wing press keep printing their tripe it will be enough for now to keep them in power. Remember there will be no GE for at least another 2 years. Johnson might go but we will still be left with this sh1te in power. You don’t loose a 78 seat majority overnight and they have no reason to ‘go to the country’ any time soon. We have got this for some time yet.

Had it also with a close relative & qanon/anti-vaxx.

What a time to be alive huh?

As it happens, I’ve just arrived in Cornwall (8 hour drive ffs!!).
I’m fairly sure this area will soon see the effects of Brexit.

Also caught the news earlier about delays/cancellations of holidays ’abroad’….poor sods :(

The upper class Brexit voters don’t care about its economic impact because they are insulated and shielded through accumulated wealth. The middle classes understood the impact and didn’t vote for it. The working class Brexit voters don’t understand it’s economic impact. Broad brush strokes but mainly true in my experience.

Agreed. Some of the numpties around here don’t have a clue and don’t care.

An ongoing 4% loss in GDP literally means nothing to people of below average intelligence. If you know what that is you realise how mind boggling damaging that is to every person in the country, and that is never going to be recovered.

It is hard to temper your anger and frustration at those who forced this on us.

Broad brush strokes often work better in this context, where there is no desire to discuss or even acknowledge fine detail ( which of course, is where that old devil is).
Brexit and its adherents always put me in mind of Alf Garnett.
That was back in the mid 60s and nothing has really changed except that the cockney accent has been replaced by a double-breasted suit, a double -barrelled name, and a patronising public-school sneer.

How it started - Gov.com 11/5/22

How its going - 26/5/22

It was always going to be the case. Why ship your goods thousands of miles when you have a large customer base on your doorstep. Nobody would be daft enough to do that would they???

This is fucking mental.... good though because its appealing to a smaller and smaller demographic - no wholesaler, retailer or supplier is going to recalibrate or use new packaging to support a dwindling market

Doesn’t make a 28.3495g of sense to me.

Brexiters - listen and learn - you were told all this but Phil breaks it down for the hard of understanding
