Keir Starmer

All it takes is for the Cons to show a no confidence in Johnson and this whole view turns to ash in an instance.

There are many clones of Starmer-like politicians in the Tory party, which would make Starmer redundant.
yeah, you make a good point about Starmer and the battle for the mid ground. I do think that Johnson has damaged the Tory Party though, the electorate will hold them at least some way culpable given the support for the lying bastard.

That he's damaged the party is clear, but the Tories are not in danger of an immediate gen election, so they have room to manoeuvre. I think there's background skulduggery afoot whilst Johnson is away.

I think the next viable candidate is Jeremy Hunt. He's a prick, but he infinitely more accessible than Starmer or Johnson. Hunt will have to offer a lessening of Johnson politicks and he still maintains the gov for the Cons, such is the marginal differences in politics.

If that happens, Labour can kiss the next election goodbye.

Agree that he is a prick. He also has a great deal of NHS baggage. I sincerely hope we do get a change at the next election. A Labour/Lib Dem coalition would be infinitely better than what we have.

If Johnson can become PM after being a poor mayor and sacked for lying in previous jobs, the NHS issue won't be an problem.

There's been 'enough distance' (keeping out of the main public eye) for Hunt for him to step forward if the Cons want him.

The current situation in the country would not be conducive for a challenge for most people, so it will take something special or someone extremely brave to do it, right now.

Alternately people are sick of the shit show and multiple cluster fucks and demand change.
Who knows?

Er - who are the Starmer "clones" in the Tory Party?

You’ve set the context.

One could very well argue Jeremy Hunt is Starmer-like; without character, not very engaging, but more accessible than Johnson.

In fact, probably less wishy washy than Starmer, but within the same framework of what he'd look like as a leader, he would stop Starmer being PM. And if he's what a centre politician looks like, then there's a few that's around.

And what party is Hunt in again...?

Daft.

I don't think Jeremy Hunt was named by his parents after a Labour Party leader.

Hunt: "... he tried his hand at a number of different entrepreneurial business ventures, with three failed start-ups including an attempt to export marmalade to Japan"

Starmer: "He served as a legal officer for the campaign group Liberty until 1990. He was a member of Doughty Street Chambers from 1990 onwards, primarily working on human rights issues."

What kind of argument is that??

"Daft"?

Johnson being PM after his disastrous career destroys your whole argument.

I'm lost. My argument is that your attempt to equate Hunt and Starmer is ridiculous.

No, my point was current Labour and Con politics arent' that far apart and if the Tories got rid of Johnson for a Johnson-lite (see Starmer or Hunt), Starmer would be fucked.

I said there are many politicians that are Starmer-like [in presentation].

He's nothing special or standout. He's just on the opposition.

Labour isn't legislating to break the law, or to suppress protest, suppress voting, traffic asylum seekers, piss off our biggest export market, appease the DUP, stop employers settling strikes, etc etc

Please don't bring this "they're all the same" nonsense from the US thread to this thread.

I'll put up with Starmer's wishy-washy (but electable) socialism to get rid of the not so wishy-washy fascists.
